Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Application Packaging Engineer to join the Cyber Security Technology (CST) team within Ally Financial’s Information Protection and Risk Management (IPRM) organization. The engineer will design, develop, and support enterprise-class packaging and deployment solutions across multiple operating systems, ensuring security client health and compliance standards are consistently met.
This role requires a self-driven, detail-oriented professional who can work independently with minimal direction while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and troubleshoot enterprise-class packages (Windows, Linux RPMs, Mac .pkg) to support security and endpoint management initiatives.

Maintain and enforce enterprise client security deployment standards and health baselines.

Provide technical support for endpoint security solutions, including configuration, maintenance, and monitoring.

Diagnose and resolve incidents impacting endpoint security client health or related infrastructure components.

Collaborate on automation strategies to improve deployment, packaging, and security response processes.

Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, SOPs, deployment plans, test plans, and operational procedures.

Participate in after-hours or weekend support when critical technical issues arise.

Contribute to secondary security technology initiatives such as:

Data classification tooling

Data loss prevention (DLP) solutions

Key and certificate management systems
Required Qualifications
-
7+ years experience creating, troubleshooting, and debugging Windows Installer packages (e.g., InstallShield, custom actions, tables).

4+ years experience building and supporting Linux RPM packages for multiple distributions.

3+ years experience with MacOS .pkg packaging standards and underlying OS technologies.
-
Proficiency with MECM/SCCM, Ansible, and/or JAMF.

Strong problem-solving skills and a meticulous approach to standards and details.

Experience creating and maintaining policies, SOPs, and technical documentation.
-
Cross-functional understanding of security operations, practices, and user experience.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and a professional, collaborative demeanor.

Ability to work independently, take ownership, and proactively deliver results.
Desired Qualifications

5+ years experience with PowerShell, Bash/Zsh scripting, and Windows batch files (Python not required).

3+ years intermediate experience with SQL scripting for Oracle and MS SQL.

3+ years experience creating enterprise-class PowerShell scripts integrating multiple application APIs as part of workflow automation.

2+ years understanding of performance counters/metrics across Windows, Linux, and MacOS.

Exposure to orchestration engines or standardized workflow platforms using enterprise databases for health reporting and tracking.
