Mainframe DB2 System DBA

100% Remote

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Mainframe DB2 System DBA responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of DB2 databases on mainframe systems. The role involves ensuring database availability, security, and optimal performance while supporting critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, configure, and upgrade DB2 on mainframe environments (z/OS)
Manage and maintain DB2 subsystems and related tools
Monitor database performance and perform tuning (buffer pools, storage, queries)
Ensure database security, backup, and recovery processes
Perform database reorganization (REORG), RUNSTATS, and utilities management
Troubleshoot database issues and provide root cause analysis
Support application teams with database design and query optimization
Implement disaster recovery and high availability solutions
Maintain system documentation and standards

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
Strong experience with DB2 on z/OS
Knowledge of mainframe environments (JCL, TSO/ISPF)
Experience with DB2 utilities (REORG, LOAD, COPY, RUNSTATS)
Understanding of database performance tuning and SQL optimization
Familiarity with backup/recovery strategies
Basic scripting and automation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with tools like DB2 Administration Tool, SPUFI, or QMF
Knowledge of COBOL and CICS environments
Exposure to other databases (Oracle, SQL Server)
Experience in banking/financial systems (common for mainframes)
