Position Title: Sr. DataStage Developer
location : Mc Lean, VA
Duration : 6 + Months
- supporting regulatory reporting applications (8 apps in this area); one is on DataStage, another on SAS, and a bunch written in Java
- primarily looking to replace DataStage skill set, but having SAS is a big plus and having Java is even better (preferred)
-Agile, Modern Delivery team
-expected to operate independently and directly work with the business to understand requirements; design and develop
-expected to operate like a lead working with architecture team, support groups, and business areas
-shell scripting (all datastage codes run on UNIX servers wrapped around shell scripts)
-deal heavily with data (very good SQL skills)
-reports are generated in text files
- If they know SAS reporting that would be a big plus
-DataStage (11.x) – can have worked with other ETL tools but need to be strong at least in this version that they are using
-ability to write complex SQL queries
We are seeking a motivated individual to design and develop enhancements to software applications on a DataStage ETL (11.x As a senior member of the IT development team, the Individual would independently lead the solution delivery of issues. The individual would champion technology and tools changes/improvements that improve delivery processes. Be a role model and a technical mentor to junior and mid-level developers. Work collaboratively with other open minded, technology savvy and dedicated agile team members.
Responsibilities:
Develop effective solutions to new and existing data reporting requirements and data issues primarily using DataStage.
Perform root cause analysis and address existing issues.
Find gaps in the existing processes, constantly improve the processes/procedures, automate manual tasks and provide stability to the applications.
Participate in analysis of agile user stories; participate in and drive solution design based on business requirements and architecture, prototype if necessary, develop, unit test and deploy quality solutions.
Contribute to the enhancement of department application development/delivery standards, tools and processes.
Perform analysis and make code changes to the DataStage ETL and Unix jobs.
Support applications in production.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent work experience
At least 5-7 years of experience in DataStage(ETL), shell scripting, and db2/Sybase/Oracle SQL skills.
Strong analytical and development skills required to troubleshoot issues and develop effective solutions.
Team player with a positive attitude.
Innovative in providing solutions and likes to take on challenges with calculated risks.
Strive to constantly improve the application development processes and tools.
Experience in all aspects of system development life cycle methodologies including agile development
Quick learner of new technologies and tools.
Excellent customer service skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and management on both the business and IT sides.
Preferred Skills:
Working experience in Java, SAS and Autosys.
Experience working on agile teams.
