Senior Storage Engineer with Automation

Contract : 6-12 months

Job description

Your Impact - Responsibilities:
Provide ongoing storage administration, maintenance and problem resolution of existing SAN / NAS storage infrastructure and related software.
Configure, provision, and troubleshoot EMC storage portfolio specifically that of VMAX, SRDF, Data Domain, and NetApp FAS/AFF Arrays including E-Series, VMware VSAN and Cisco MDS storage networking.
Setup and configure RAID groups, aggregates, volumes, quotes and qtrees on NetApp Storage Arrays and Storage Groups/LUN Masking/Creation on EMC Arrays.
Manage and configure server backup policies, schedules and enable backup/restore operations and troubleshoot and resolve failed backups (if any)
Perform code upgrades for Netapp FAS/AFF Operating System, Cisco MDS Fabric Switches, VMAX and Data Domain Storage Systems.
Develop self-service storage, backup & recovery capabilities through end-to-end automation.
Enhance and improve routine maintenance and repeatable tasks using automation code and simplify the storage infrastructure deployment/configuration at scale.
Help resolve complex IT issues, operational tickets related to storage and backup technologies.
Provide effective KPIs metrics on real-time and historical data points from both public and private cloud storage technologies and use the data points to provide effective capacity planning and forecasting public and private cloud spends.
Participate in agile infrastructure software development, scrum, kanban and sprint.
Adhere to change and problem management practices and provide timely RCAs for storage related incidents (if any)
Enhance and improve high quality backup, recovery and storage solutions for both public and private cloud platforms.
Enable migration of backup archive to cloud storage provider and sunset legacy tape-based archive solution.
Provide guard rails and best practices for storage standards within our public cloud platforms - AWS S3/EBS/FSx/EFS/Storage Gateway and NetApp Ontap Cloud.
Participate in ongoing projects and technology evaluation related to storage solution and migration, code upgrades, and data protection and management activities.
Design and implement cloud storage gateways and enable cloud based storage as service.
Be familiar with Linux and Windows operations and how it relates to storage running on virtual/physical infrastructure.
Be a subject matter expert for implementing continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline for storage infrastructure as code.
Maintain revision control, implement automated test, provisioning and deprovisioning workflows for storage domain for both public and private cloud platforms.
Drive process adoption through documentation, brown bags, tech talks, etc.
Support and train peers in your area of expertise.
Field escalated support requests from groups including Network, and Systems Infrastructure, BTSR, Desktop Support, Techforce, Information Security, Database, Data Warehouse, Application Support, Tech Operations and other.
Required skills and experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related discipline, or equivalent 6+ years of professional work experience.
Hands-on experience in designing, implementing, optimizing, and managing global enterprise scale storage, including Enterprise Scale SAN and NAS, Enterprise Backup solutions, VTL and Replication technologies, software defined storage, including Public Cloud platform and protocols.
Deep expertise in designing and implementing HA/DR Solutions in multi-cloud environments, data protection architectures as well as data security, data at rest and data in transit encryption
Hands-on experience with cloud and on-premise enterprise storage environments (i.e. EMC VMAX/PowerMax, Data domain, SRDF, SnapMirror, NetApp, Veritas Netbackup, VMware, EC2, EBS, FSx, S3, S3 Glacier, S3 Glacier Deep Archive, KMS, EFS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, Cloud Trail and Transit Gateway)
Experience with cloud-based software development tools and methodologies (e.g. Git, CI/CD, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, Jenkin, Build Automation and Testing, etc
Experience in administrative languages (i.e. Python, PowerShell, Ruby, GoLang, Bash, etc
Experience with configuration management tools (i.e. Puppet, Ansible, etc
Experience with RestAPI and usage of native API programming.
Experience with orchestration technologies (i.e. Terraform, AWS Cloudformation)
Must have experience leading projects that delivered large scale infrastructure improvements.
Experience in RedHat/CentOS/Windows and VMware technologies.
Must have effective oral and written communications skills and the ability to work successfully with others;
Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, ability to provide alternatives, root cause analysis, testing skills and ability to make thoughtful proposals are also among the skills required;
Customer service oriented with strong interpersonal and leadership skills;
Desired Skills:
Experience with mission-critical storage management in a large global organization.
Experience with SYMCLI, NAVISECCLI, Cisco DCNM, Connectrix Manager, Data Domain Scheduled Backups using Netbackup
Experience in performance, incident and problem management
Experience in SAN expansion in Cisco fabrics environment.
Background in Information Security;
Familiarity with Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, SSH, IPSEC, PKI, SSL, TLS, TACACS+ protocol.
Experience with monitoring tools (Zabbix, Splunk, Grafana, Nagios, etc)
Nice to have - Experience with other cloud providers (i.e. Azure, GCP, etc.
