Role: Senior Communications Systems Engineer

Contractor - Senior Communications Systems Engineer to help us support the next generation of satellite communications systems. The successful candidate will enjoy a rich and fulfilling career with various responsibilities ranging across, monitoring the overall network health of our gateways globally, performance monitoring, and deep dive troubleshooting for fault isolation. We are looking for someone with broad experience to work on our next-generation LEO/MEO/GEO satellite communication systems and a willingness to do even more. The position is located in our Gaithersburg, Maryland office.

Responsibilities:

Configuration and testing of wireless systems (4G LTE, 5G, WiFi) in a deployed ground network environment, focusing on cellular core network elements (MSC, IMS, MME, SGW/PGW, OCS, PCRF, etc.).
Configuration and integration of RAN radio equipment and backhaul technologies such as microwave/satellite with EPC core network.
Troubleshooting and validating features such as LTE mobility management, inter-RAT handoffs, roaming architecture, CSFB, VoLTE, etc.
Work cross-functionally with partners, project management, network, software, and hardware engineers to build network designs to solve connectivity problems.
Participate in the daily operational activities/provide day-to-day analysis, proactive maintenance, and performs independent complex network system troubleshooting.
Provide strategic technical direction, roadmap, design, installation, and configuration of all network systems and services.
Plan and execute pre-release validation and verification, software and hardware compatibility, release test and validation, and upgrades to meet service level objectives.
Gather and update necessary information (projects and incidents) and communicate to appropriate parties/stakeholders
Utilize experience, technical knowledge, and skills to identify and optimize capacity and performance issues for the highest service availability and integrity.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs and verifying completion of scheduled jobs.
Create and maintain detailed network documents and diagrams, including all associated links.
As a primary or secondary support staff, participate in the 24×7 on-call rotation and associated incident/problem resolution, periodic communication update, RCA, remediation plans, tickets closure, etc.

Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications or related technical degree or combination of education and experience.
5+ years of experience with intermediate knowledge of load balancers, firewalls, and wireless technologies and security
5 to 10 years of satellite ground network installation, commissioning, connectivity, and other Test experience.
Hands-on experience in Linux CLI environment SSH, SCP, Shell scripts, and VI(Other text editing tools)Hands-on experience with configuration, installation, and upgrading Routers, Switches, and Firewalls.
5+ years’ knowledge of IP, UDP, TCP, HTTP protocols and analysis tools such as Wireshark

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of satellite system architectures (GEO, LEO, MEO, and others)
Experience in wireless standards like 3GPP 5G/LTE/4G/3G, DOCSIS, WiFi/ 802.11, Wimax, DVB-S2 / DVB-C, OR similar broadband wireless standards such as Layer-2/MAC layer and experience in writing Layer-2 protocol specifications for either wireline or wireless broadband communication systems.
Experience with LEO/MEO satellite systems and their systems CONOPS and systems
Strong knowledge of data communications principles, architectures, and protocols including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VoIP, SIP, WAN, and Ethernet technologies to design and implement efficient network configurations and interoperability troubleshooting skills (data, voice, and video)
Deep knowledge of the practices and principles of telecommunication systems analysis, planning, design, and problem resolution skills Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
