Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Software Application Layer Server Administration:
Maintains the application layer for servers in the Develop, Test, UAT, and Production environments for internally developed software. Maintains and manages IIS and Windows Services in these environments. Plans for and ensures that deployed applications are correctly configured for optimal performance. Maintains current understanding of new and emerging technologies as well as technology best practices in order to provide guidance and training of development staff in employing these technologies and practices. Works with the Company Information Security team to understand and employ cyber security requirements.
2. Software Application Build and Deployment Administration: Develops and maintains deployment plans for the Software Development Department. Advises other areas on proper application design and deployment methods. Works with developers to enhance existing legacy software. Develops and implements release plans and scripts using deployment automation tools like Octopus Deploy and Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines. Monitors builds and releases and updates deployment strategies to accommodate changes in products or technology.
3. Software Application Monitoring Implementation and Administration:
Develops and maintains system dashboards and alerting mechanisms that reflect the current performance status of flagship applications. Develops methods and metrics to measure application health and to predict areas of degraded performance at the application and application services layer for our distributed software. Proactively assesses potential issues and informs internal and external stakeholders. Troubleshoots issues in concert with the above departments and brings them to resolution.
4. Software Development Liaison with Infrastructure:
Communicates with Infrastructure staff regarding additions, updates, changes and migrations for Software Development based applications for all Production, UAT, Test and Development environments. Works with Infrastructure to plan upgrades and patches that may impact the application layer of these environments. Works with Infrastructure to develop and implement an upgrade strategy for operating systems, applications (such as IIS and SQL Server
5. Application Layer Disaster Recovery Implementation and Administration:
Works with BCDR and Infrastructure teams to build and maintain the disaster recovery environment for the datacenters. Manages deployment scripts to keep the DR datacenters in sync. Works with IT and business teams to validate the DR datacenter configuration. Performs regular failover testing with these departments to ensure the viability of the BCDR program. Works closely with Software Development to evolve existing applications to accommodate a hot-hot multi-datacenter strategy.
6. Application Migration Implementation:
Operates as one of the primary individuals in the planning, testing and execution of migrations for all Software Development applications. Works with Software Development, Infrastructure and DBAs to create migration plans for the application and data layers. Reviews and suggests upgrades to current software to accommodate changes in environment for both the application and data layer. Oversees migrations of the Development, Test, UAT and Production environments. Troubleshoots migration issues and sees them to resolution.
