Job Description

The IP Engineer I performs tasks related to deploying new technologies and upgrades to the current network infrastructure. 70% to 80% of the expected responsibility of this position involves production deployment of predefined architecture.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Set forth below is a list of the essential duties and responsibilities (or "essential functions") of this position.


Performs implementation of new hardware and/or software as it relates to IP Engineering projects.
Maintains the lifecycle management environment within the Data Center, Head ends, and Local Offices; Performs upgrades to the internet product and all-inclusive IP routing/switching.
Assists with the review, and occasional development, of Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation for configuration templates, method of procedures, network diagrams, knowledge base articles, bill of materials and support documentation.
Receives training on new technology integration, technology upgrades, new product design, and implementation from relevant Sparklight team members.
Analyzes active projects assigned to re-estimate time and cost.
Works as part of a project team to determine risks and limitations for each project scope and requirements; verifies all requirements are met through production release.
Performs on-call duties and overnight network changes as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


Bachelor’s degree (B. A from four-year college or university preferred; and minimum two years related progressive experience in a network engineering role required.
Previous working background in an MSO (Multiple System Operators) in the cable industry preferred.            




LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS


Associate-level networking certification or equivalent expertise required.
Professional-level networking certification or equivalent expertise preferred.
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.




OTHER QUALIFICATIONS


Must be flexible and able to work on-call outside business hours.
Position will require up to 10% travel.
Network design and implementation project experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: backbone, data center, headend/CMTS, and optical transport.
Experience with the following vendor products preferred:

Advanced routing products from Juniper (MX), CMTS platforms from Arris (E6000) or Cisco (ubr10k) or Casa (C100G), Optical transport products from Alcatel-Lucent (1830


Experience with IPv6, TR-069, DWDM, DOCSIS 3.1, SDN, and other relevant technologies and/or standards preferred.
