Skill sets we are seeking. All nice to have some required. Highest priority highlighted in yellow. Green is high nice to have.
Windows Server 2012/2016
o Microsoft Active Directory
§ GPO Creation
MUST know how to write effective group policies without babysitting
§ DNS
Know the differences between stub zones, primary zones, secondary etc
Know cnames, A-Records, Active Directory DNS files
Stub zone vs conditional forwarders
§ Domain trusts and their respective relationships
§ Roles and permissions (Differences in Domain admin vs Account operator) for example
§ FSMO roles and what each role does
§ Understand global catalogues
§ User / Group creation
§ MUST BE ABLE TO BUILD AD FARMS FROM THE GROUND UP
§ Understand and be able to troubleshoot issues with SYSVOL
§ Must be able to troubleshoot active directory domain issues
o Microsoft ADFS and federation into 3rd parties
§ Explain what ADFS is, what is the difference between password hash sync, passthrough sync, etc
o PowerShell automation (nice to have)
§ Using powershell to integrate with vendor API’s
§ PowerCLI with VMWare
§ Basically the ability to automate redundant tasks
o General server administration
§ Network connectivity
§ Disk issues
§ Read through event viewer and application logs to conclude root/cause
§ Performance related issues
§ Hardware related issues
o IIS experience
o MSSQL experience
AWS
o Familiarity with AWS availability zones and infrastructure best practices
o AWS Storage Gateways
o Hybrid cloud vs Active/Active
o IaaS experience is a huge plus
o Basically – anything higher than, I can create an ec2 instance in AWS
Network
o Not looking for a network admin per se, but someone who can adequately troubleshoot hardware
symptoms and deduce the root/cause to be network related
o Understand Layers 2 and 3 fairly well
o VLANs
o Understand F5 load-balancing and implementation
Splunk
o Not required but is a plus, I’m the only Splunk resource our team has and it’d be nice to offload some of the
lighter tasks to someone else
VMWare
o Must have extensive VMWare knowledge
o Be able to create/deploy golden images and deployment templates
o Understand DRS rules and proper HA strategies
o Explain host affinity
o DAS vs NAS vs SAN
o Resource pool management
