Job Title : Principal CICS Systems Programmer

Position Summary
We are seeking a Principal CICS Systems Programmer to join our team in Woodlawn, MD. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in architecting, designing, and managing complex CICS environments across multiple LPAR mainframe systems. This hands-on role requires a seasoned professional who can lead modernization initiatives, optimize performance, and ensure seamless integration with enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, implement, and manage large-scale CICS environments (CICSPLEX, CPSM, SYSPLEX) across multiple LPARs.
- Lead integration and performance optimization initiatives using CICS, IBM MQ, CICS Transaction Gateway, SMP/E, z/OSMF, SAS, REXX, and other tools.
- Provide architectural guidance to application teams, focusing on capacity planning, system integration, and best practices.
- Install, configure, and maintain CICS v6.x and associated subsystems.
- Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and root cause analysis for CICS environments.
- Troubleshoot and support CICS applications and related enterprise services.
- Ensure accurate documentation of system configurations, changes, incidents, and resolutions.
- Administer IBM utilities and third-party COTS tools (e.g., InterTest, Abend-Aid, MacKinney Batch to CICS, MAPR).
- Participate in on-call support rotations, incident triage, and system troubleshooting.
- Communicate technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences including management, customers, and vendors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to resolve complex system issues.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with CICS system programming.
- 4+ years of experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting IBM utilities and COTS tools.
- 3+ years of experience administering IBM MQ for z/OS.
- Must be able to work on-site 5 days/week in Woodlawn, MD.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctorate degree (may substitute for some experience).
- Experience designing and managing CICSPLEX environments and integrating IBM MQ with CICS.
- Proven ability to independently build, configure, and upgrade CICS Transaction Server regions.
- Expertise in CICS v6.x internals, mainframe networking, and debugging tools.
- Experience with z/OS V3R1, MVS components, and Unix System Services (USS).
- Proficiency in SMP/E, z/OSMF, SAS, REXX, and CICS Transaction Gateway.
- Strong application programming background.
- Exceptional communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to mentor team members and collaborate across organizational boundaries.
