Job Title : Appian Architect

About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Appian Architect to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in automating the processing of Veterans benefits. The selected candidate will help design and implement a robust automation services platform to streamline services across the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), National Cemetery Administration (NCA), Board of Veterans Appeals (BVA), and other approved federal entities.
This multi-year project will involve developing scalable, intelligent automation solutions to support a wide array of benefit types and evolving technological requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement an automation services platform to support VBA benefit processing.
- Ensure platform integration with VA and third-party systems using APIs and user interfaces.
- Replicate and expand upon services provided by existing Mail Automation Services (MAS) and Additional Presumptive Capacity Automation Services (APCAS).
- Incorporate emerging technologies into the platform architecture as needed.
- Participate in iterative platform development, supporting delivery of automated processes in parallel.
- Assist in gathering and documenting requirements for additional benefit automation plans.
- Support the transformation of VBA’s IT architecture to increase API and data service utilization.

Required Qualifications
- Certified Level 2 Appian Developer
- 3+ years as a senior/lead Appian Developer for production applications
- 1+ year developing Appian Plugins
- 1+ year managing an on-prem Appian Production Environment
- 2+ years experience with Appian UI, logic, reports, and system integration
- 2+ years experience with relational databases and SQL scripting
- 3+ years experience with full SDLC using Agile methodologies
- 2+ years designing and implementing SOAP and RESTful APIs
- Native or bilingual proficiency in English
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a federal government project environment
- Experience defining/documenting system architecture
- 1+ year of Java development experience
- Experience with Appian on Kubernetes
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases
- Cloud resource management expertise
- Strong skills in application performance optimization
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation abilities
