Job Title: Senior Tomcat Engineer
Location: Dallas, TX (Onsite) Duration: 6 Months
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Tomcat Engineer to design, install, configure, and maintain Apache Tomcat in complex, clustered production environments. This role focuses on ensuring high availability, security, and performance optimization within Linux based infrastructures. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Tomcat administration, middleware platforms, and container deployments.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain large scale Apache Tomcat environments, including upgrades, patching, and configuration management
- Perform JVM and Tomcat performance tuning to optimize memory, thread pools, and connectors
- Conduct vulnerability management and implement security best practices
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis
- Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to integrate Tomcat with NGINX, Apache HTTPd, and load balancers
- Automate deployments and maintenance tasks using scripting and configuration tools
- Deploy Tomcat applications on Red Hat OpenShift container platforms
- Create DNS URLs and manage CNAME records for application instances
- Coordinate load balancer requests with networking teams
- Work with Chef JSON configurations and manage Autosys jobs for automated server reboots
- Support certificate creation (Y8 certs) for DB2 environments
- Ensure PSE PROD servers are configured in Break Glass mode before go live
- Provide rotational night shift coverage as required
Required Skills and Experience
- 8 to 10 years of experience in middleware platforms with strong specialization in Tomcat build and support
- Hands on experience with Apache Tomcat administration in production environments
- Strong knowledge of Red Hat Linux
- Experience deploying applications on Red Hat OpenShift
- Familiarity with DNS management and load balancer coordination
- Experience with Chef configuration files and Autosys job scheduling
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
- Ability to work in rotational shifts, including night coverage
Preferred Skills
- Experience integrating Tomcat with NGINX or Apache HTTPd
- Knowledge of containerized and clustered application environments
- Scripting and automation experience
