Description:

TECANL: The Technical Analyst understands the business/project needs & works with the Business Analyst to validate the business requirements and determine the system requirements. The Technical Analyst collaborates with the design teams to determine the application, database, & other system impacts based on the requirements. The Technical Analyst works closely with other members of the technical teams to ensure all requirements are addressed in the solution design.

Works with Business Analyst to interpret customer and business needs and translate them into the application, system, technical and operational requirements.
Engages and participates in projects/applications requirement sessions in order to ensure proper technical requirements are clearly documented, testable, and managed.
May works closely with business and boundary partners (Field Operations, Customer Care, and vendors) to support the application lifecycle from development through implementation.
Communicates technical and business aspects of work efforts between team members.
Determines impact on existing applications & databases based on requirements. Understands applications and systems and provides development input to architects/engineers during the analysis phase.
Provides project manager with time and resource estimates for technical requirements.
Works with the technical team to ensure all requirements are addressed in solution design.
Coordinates with QA for testing new features and bug fixes to verify results are as expected.
Works directly with Development and QA teams to complete application implementations with minimal impact to customers.
Develops technical documentation, processes, installation procedures and service guides, application training information and may assist in the development of end-to-end documentation for various projects and supported products/applications
Participates in peer review of solution design documentation.
Review vendor documents as appropriate including detailed functional specifications, and file and field layouts and determines if vendor solutions meet client requirements.
Develops measurements and reports on key service-level metrics.
Possesses a clear understanding of the architecture standards, a high-level understanding of the business, and a deep understanding of respective domain architectures (business, information, application, technology)
Depicts the enterprise information conceptually, logically, and physically
Identifies architectural implications of the business requirements

Typical Training / Experience - Typically requires BS/BA or Associates degree in a related discipline. Certification may be required in some areas; Generally, 0-2 years of experience in related field OR MS/MA/MBA or law degree and generally 0-1 year of experience in a related field

Role Summary
Outside Plant Engineering and Construction is seeking an innovative Technical Analyst – OSPC Data/Reporting to join our Performance Management team. This resource will execute the work to leverage our database platforms, tools, and data sources to collect, analyze, interpret, and in some cases present OSP E&C Portfolio, Delivery, and Performance Management data to end-users. This resource will be responsible for determining how data is captured, used and how best to deliver the content to enable leadership’s performance management activities.

This role requires an individual who is driven to deliver on the needs of the organization. This Analyst will communicate well with the OSPC E&C Fields VPs, Managers, and Supervisors. They should have a strong understanding of OSP E&C processes, programs, and tools and will be working on performance management activities that include, but not limited to, NT 2.0 (N0/Node Splits), WATTS/Optix/TOMS/BID data repository, Remedy ESRs/Cable Replacements, Residential Build/FTTH, as well as CB Retail and Carrier activities for Construction. This resource should have experience working directly with large volumes of data using SQL and tools such as Alteryx, Toad, and Tableau.

Our business changes quickly so the ability to explore and understand new data and problems is key. Remaining current on the latest technology and tools is also key. This resource will also work directly with a variety of stakeholders including senior executives so the ability to communicate complex information in simple ways is a plus.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Provides guidance and support to junior reporting resources
Provides and conducts analytic efforts to support business operations, which includes data analysis, data structure, reporting, and dashboard development.
Works with Outside Plant Construction team members to define and develop KPIs and operational metrics.
Collect, compile and analyze data, from various structured and unstructured sources, to perform statistical and usage analyses.
Develop data requirements to support new products and new insights
Use data and business knowledge to find new ways to answer key business questions.
Work with large amounts of data, gathering, cleansing, analyzing, and summarizing. Strong SQL skills are a must.
Develop analytical strategies to solve business problems – this involves understanding the business problem, identifying relevant data, gathering and summarizing data meaningfully, and applying appropriate statistical analysis to identify causal relationships and predict future outcomes. Deliverables must be high-quality with strong attention to detail.
Use SQL to access our databases and work with data
Use Tableau, Toad, Excel, Alteryx, and other tools to create visualizations and reports to explore and explain data.
Contribute to our constantly-evolving data layer by creating new ways of understanding our business.
Create dashboards and automated reports on key business metrics.
Present insights through formal and informal presentations and write reviews

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business, Technology and/or Finance
Advanced SQL experience required
Tableau, Power BI, Informatica, Alteryx, R, Excel, SAS, OBIEE RPD Development skills preferred
Information architecture, statistics, mathematics preferred
Curiosity and a constant drive to learn is essential
Knowledge of client Construction initiatives, objectives, and job types
Understanding of the relationship between regions, division, and corporate business partners

Experience:
Experience with creative and analytical thinking – knowledge of how to ask and answer questions
2+ years of data analytics experience working with a variety of data sources
2+ years of experience working with Visualization Tools, i.e. Tableau, OBIEE, Power BI, MicroStrategy
Experience working in a large data environment doing SQL development
Experience managing data requirements/development projects with close attention to detail and high-quality performance preferred
Conducts business impact analyses and validation studies and market research through all stages: concept formulation, the definition of metrics, determination of appropriate statistical methodology, research evaluation, and final research report
Facilitates meetings and presentations to senior leadership
Develops analytical tools and numerical modeling of complex operations systems and processes
