Job Title: Systems Engineer

Location: Remote or Chantilly, VA

Job Duties:

  • Install, configure, and support an organization's Linux, Unix servers on local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet systems or a segment of a network system
  • Responsible for system administration for Unix (Linux) servers and services.
  • Assist in network/Unix/Linux server modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software
  • Configures alerts, and monitors system performance and utilization.
  • Maintains and audits system security configuration and logs
  • Track's vulnerabilities and applies appropriate patches and upgrades
  • Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.
  • Develops and maintains capacity plans for all systems.
  • Administer network security measures.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Documents and tests system recovery plans
  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
  • Works with the team to develop system administration operations documentation.
  • Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements.
  • Research new technologies by attending seminars, reading trade articles, or taking classes, and implement or recommend the implementation of new technologies like Cloud, Ealastic Search Kibana Dashboards, Openshift Docker Container.
  • Perform Operating System Builds / Upgrades - Base bare-metal build. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary.
  • Responsible for identifying Root cause Analysis of a issue occurred in Complex Env - (UAT/COB/PROD).
  • Assist app team with application performance tuning. On boarding new applications UAT/COB/PROD and complex environment. POST servers build tasks (After L3 gets server from Central Build Team but before release into production for L2 support.) Configure/verify Netbackup. Verify NIC teaming settings for HA/failover Ensure SDT installs crossover cable for heartbeat sync and configure on Veritas cluster nodes Install VCS clustering. Configure/verify Netbackup Install required software's/business request.

Minimum education necessary to perform the above responsibilities: This position requires a candidate with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, information technology or a combination of education and experience equating to the U.S. equivalent of a Bachelor's degree in one of the aforementioned subjects.
