Senior Systems Administrator
Framingham, MA

Overview:
- Responsible for overseeing the systems infrastructure and associated technologies
- Effectively plan, design and implement projects for the deployment of new hardware and software solutions
- Will carry out hands-on installation, configuration, updates, troubleshooting and corrections of hardware and software solutions

Duties:
- Provide oversight of systems staff members and delegated duties in order to insure that support functions of ITS/Systems and Network Services are met in an efficient fashion.
- Supervise the daily operation, maintenance and monitoring of all systems, and servers connected to the network.
- Provide project planning, design and implementation to include drafting proposals and status reporting for the upgrade and deployment of technologies.
- Meet with individuals, groups and departments in order to provide analysis and recommendations of their technology related needs.
- Maintain a broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies to recommend new deployments and upgrades in support of strategic initiatives.
- Maintain a routine maintenance plan and downtime schedule for the systems infrastructure in accordance with service level agreements.
- Oversee user account administration and system access levels in accordance with guidelines and industry best practice standards.
- Manage enterprise-wide systems backup and restore measures in order to insure the Disaster Recover readiness.
- Serve as primary point person for security related issues and implements server security measure and procedures in compliance with University policies and applicable laws.
- Manage the campus Storage Area Network (SAN) and related technologies.
- Supervise email systems and associated technologies.
- Oversee file and print server functions and related applications.
- Install, implement, and maintain server hardware, operating systems and software. applications.
- Undertake software updates and corrections such as service packs and other measures to sustain a secure and reliable computing environment.
- Participate in the development and documentation of policies and procedures.
- Inventory and document systems and software within functional area of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with hardware and software license and maintenance agreements.
- Work with outside vendors and service providers to implement projects and resolve problems.
- Assume additional responsibilities as may be determined by the Director of Systems and Network Service or the Chief Information Officer.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with server applications in a mixed Linux and Microsoft sever environment
- 2+ years of hands on experience managing SAN technologies in a mission critical environment
- Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, User Accounts, Computer Accounts, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS and WINS
- Understanding of file and print functions within an enterprise environment
- Working knowledge of industry standards for systems and network security
- Strong hardware and software troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity of web applications, including Apache/Tomcat and Microsoft IIS
- Ability to multi-task and perform multiple projects
- Outstanding customer service and interaction skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Flexibility to deal with a changing environment and strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 and email server functions
- Experience with HP hardware and software technologies
- Knowledge of HP Data Protector backup and restore software
- Previous formalized project management experience a plus
- Redhat Linux and Microsoft certifications strongly desired
