Job Title : Senior Natural Application Support Developer
Location: Jackson, MS, Remote

Position Overview

The client is is seeking an experienced Senior Application Support Developer to support the continued modernization of the Mississippi Automated Child Welfare Information System (MACWIS). This effort is a key part of the agency’s mission to enhance service delivery, data integrity, and system functionality through modernization and the transition to a new Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS)-compliant platform.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Natural, Visual Basic 6 (VB6), and .NET programming languages, as well as a strong understanding of child welfare business processes and workflows. The developer will maintain and enhance legacy Natural code, resolve production issues, and contribute to the development of new functionalities aligned with the agency’s modernization goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance legacy Natural applications in the current production environment.

  • Develop new system features and functionalities using VB6, .NET, and SQL to support modernization initiatives.

  • Perform source data analysis and scripting (SQL, Natural) for data cleanup, de-duplication, and data integrity improvements.

  • Support data migration planning from legacy systems to MDCPS’s modern CCWIS platform.

  • Collaborate with Data Migration Team (DMT) to validate scripts and perform testing.

  • Participate in project meetings, technical planning sessions, and inter-agency collaborations as a subject matter expert (SME).

  • Contribute to the design, documentation, and implementation of modernization strategies bridging legacy and modern systems.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

  • 10+ years of experience with Natural Programming Language

  • 10+ years of experience with Visual Basic 6 (VB6)

  • 10+ years of experience with SQL Programming Language

  • Experience with .NET Framework (C#, ASP.NET)

  • Proven expertise in maintaining and enhancing legacy systems in production environments

  • Strong understanding of data integration, batch processing, and file-based interfaces

  • Experience with code refactoring and transitioning legacy applications to modern platforms

  • Knowledge of data mapping, conversion, and migration strategies

  • Proficiency with source control and change management tools (Git, SVN, TFS)

Child Welfare System Experience

  • Experience with Child Welfare Information Systems (SACWIS, MACWIS, or CCWIS preferred)

  • Understanding of key child welfare processes — case management, intake, service planning, licensing, and reporting

  • Ability to translate program requirements into technical specifications

Professional Experience

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a production support environment

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (business analysts, testers, project managers)

  • Strong technical documentation and system design contribution skills

  • Capable of representing the agency as a technical SME in meetings and planning sessions

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-driven, adaptable, and capable of working independently and in teams

  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring or guiding junior developers

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience with child welfare system modernization or federal CCWIS compliance

  • Familiarity with federal requirements for Child Welfare Management Systems

  • Experience with ADABAS

  • Prior involvement in large-scale data migration or system overhaul projects
