The SQL DBA is responsible for designing, administering, optimizing, and securing enterprise database environments. This role ensures high availability, performance, disaster recovery, and data integrity across mission-critical systems.
Manage and support large-scale SQL Server environments
Design database architecture for high availability and scalability
Performance tuning and query optimization
Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
Monitor database health and proactively resolve issues
Ensure database security, compliance, and access controls
Support application development teams with database design
Lead database migrations and upgrades
Automate routine DBA tasks
Technical Skills
Microsoft SQL Server (2012–2022)
High availability: Always On, clustering, replication
Performance tuning: indexing, execution plans, query optimization
Backup and recovery strategies
T-SQL, stored procedures, functions
Monitoring tools: SQL Profiler, Extended Events
Security: encryption, auditing, role-based access
Cloud databases: Azure SQL, AWS RDS (preferred)
Scripting: PowerShell
