About the Position

The Senior Software Engineer writes and maintains code within applications and systems to implement capabilities and features, improve performance and maintainability, while reducing technical debt in alignment with product and technology roadmaps. The Senior Software Engineer plays a role in Agile planning, providing advice and guidance, and monitoring emerging trends.

System Design

  • Control system design practice within an enterprise or industry architecture.
  • Influence industry-based models for the development of new technology applications.
  • Develop effective implementation and procurement strategies, consistent with business needs.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant technical strategies, policies, standards, and practices.

Programming/ Software Development

  • Design, code, test, correct and document programs and scripts from agreed specifications, and subsequent
  • Iterations, using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result.
  • Take part in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues work.

System Integration

  • Establish standards and procedures across the technology service lifecycle (including the development lifecycle) in the areas of systems integration and testing and ensures that practitioners adhere to them.

  • Manage application enhancements to improve business performance

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

As a Senior Software Engineer at Cox Automotive you will:

Agile Planning

  • Works with Product Management to understand the challenges that customers and end users face in their day-to-day work and partner with them to design viable solutions.
  • Recommends viable solutions to processes, technology, and interfaces that improve the effectiveness of the team and reduce technical debt.
  • Foresees capacity requirements for component usage and identifies limitations.
  • Provides input into story sizing, backlog grooming, and release planning.

Product Development

  • Contributes to product and solution designs to address critical issues and complex problems.
  • Builds software applications across multiple platforms in response to the needs of stakeholders.
  • Understands technical architecture and writes software and automated tests that are aligned with agreed upon standards.
  • Performs trouble-shooting efforts and investigations when necessary

Application Support

  • Provides ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products
  • Advice and Guidance
  • Actively works with less experienced software engineers providing technical guidance and oversight.

Emerging Technology Monitoring

  • Actively participates in the engineering community, staying up to date on new software technologies and best practices and shares insights with others in the organization.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • 5-8 years of working experience in software development and/or testing
  • Backend Qualifications (Required):
    • 5 or more years of hands-on experience with the design and development of REST APIs
    • Understanding of software engineering practices including DevOps practices and tools, API development, micro-service architectures, API Gateways, and SOA frameworks
    • Professional experience with
      • Dev framework - C#
      • .Net framework, entity framework or any similar ORM, .Net Core, Asp.Net
      • Working knowledge of development, testing and deployment of applications to Docker
      • Experience with performing API authentication (OAuth 2.0), Http request validation, Request Logging, Task based asynchronous programming (async/await), interface-oriented programming and dependency injection using .Net
      • Building No-SQL based and SQL CRUD/Joins for SQL backed application
        • Familiarity with TSQL and building SQL CRUD/Joins for SQL backend applications, Entity framework, Linq
  • Frontend Qualifications (Required):
    • 3 or more years of hands-on experience with the design and development of web-based applications
    • Understanding of frontend programming, frameworks, tools and best practices
    • Professional experience with
      • Dev framework - Javascript, Typescript, React JS
      • HTML5, CSS, Flex and Responsive design
      • Redux

What We Look For (preferred):

  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience with the design and development of REST APIs
  • Proven experience with architecture patterns, design patterns and tradeoffs. (multithreading, ddd, database scaling, statelessness, event driven architecture etc)
  • Infrastructure as a code - Serverless (Node.JS, Python), Terraform, AWS CloudFormation
  • Experience with agile methodologies like Kanban (preferred), Scrum, XP, etc. SAFE methodology (a plus)
  • Professional experience with AWS toolset - Lambda, API gateway, SQS, SNS, Kubernetes, EC2, Aurora
  • Experience with logging and monitoring systems like Splunk, Cloudwatch, NewRelic, DataDog
  • History of collaboration with stakeholders, product owners, product support groups
