The department

The Global Technology department plays a crucial role in supporting the success of Janus Henderson. We are responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting state-of-the-art software to support our fund management, trading, distribution, and operational areas and for maintaining a stable and resilient IT infrastructure platform.

The Global Technology department has 400+ employees, running numerous change projects across all areas of the firm, including vendor implementations, regulatory change, in-house development, as well as overseeing change delivery from third party suppliers.

The Investment & Operations Technology team is a global team and sits within the Global Technology department. The team is responsible for the development and maintenance of the suite of platforms, applications, and processes used internally within Investments, Operations, and Research.

Overview of the role

As a Senior Developer within the Investments and Operations Development team, you will be based in the Research technology team responsible for the build of a greenfield web-based Research platform. You will deliver ongoing change and new features to the suite of critical modules utilized by the multiple investment teams globally covering Equity, Fixed Income, Alternatives, ETF/ETN, and other investment solutions.

This is a hands-on technical role, and you will be expected to take ownership of key projects from design to delivery and to contribute to the overall architecture and development team practices. You will have an attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and competency in all layers of development with a drive and fire to succeed and implement optimal solutions.

As a Sr Developer, you will additionally support ongoing learning and development of other team members through code reviews, peer programming, and helping upskill and mentor junior developers on the team. You will participate in agile ceremonies with other technical staff, business owners and subject matter experts. Additionally, you will assess requirements and provide and communicate technical designs to the team.

It is important in this role that you can communicate and collaborate effectively across all areas of technology and with our business partners globally.

Duties and responsibilities

You will:

  • Work closely with the Product Owner in the Research agile team and the Investments & Operations Technology Development Manager to understand development priorities
  • Provide input into project timelines, estimations, and roadmaps
  • Performs hands-on development, adhering to the SDLC framework and best practices at Janus Henderson
  • Support ongoing learning and development of other team members through code reviews, peer programming, and mentoring of junior developers
  • Participate in product meetings with technical staff, business owners and subject matter experts
  • Assess and develop design requirements and architectures for products
  • Be an aspiring, proactive personality who can take it upon themselves to work with others and come up with the ideal solutions rather than wait to be told what to do
  • Prepares and conducts unit and integration testing based on defined standards
  • Ensures that code meets stated requirements and standards for accessibility, security, object-oriented best practices, and performance
  • Effectively function, and clearly and accurately communicate within a software development team consisting of other full stack developers, quality assurance developers, and business analysts
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Technical skills and qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of C# and Angular
  • Solid understanding of OOP and SOLID principles
  • Excellent knowledge of Azure, Function Apps, Cosmos, Service Bus, SSO, DevOps
  • Experience in micro-service and API development
  • Experience in UI/UX design
  • Experience in ADO repositories, YAML pipelines, and release management
  • Experience in unit testing against C# and Angular, E2E, Jest/Jasmine/Cypress
  • Investment Management experience
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies
  • Demonstrable ability to design and deliver complex systems at scale
  • Experience of working with geographically disperse development teams
  • Degree educated in mathematics or scientific/engineering discipline
