The Innovative Trials Model is one of the initiatives in the Growth Theme 2 (GT2) program,
and includes the following two specific areas of work:
1. Decentralized Clinical Trials (DCT) –
- Objective: Increase patient recruitment and engagement in clinical trials by enabling
virtual and hybrid clinical trial models, including piloting other DCT components and scaling
wearables/sensors. Traditional clinical trials require patients to participate at physical sites,
where there is the opportunity to obtain a more accurate representation of market
composition and higher frequency of data collection. This initiative will provide opportunity
for remote conduct of clinical trials through Remote Consent, Telemedicine, Patient-reported
outcomes (diaries, questionnaires, etc. completed in-home).
- Approach: Offer new, innovative virtual options that enable continuous monitoring and
attract a more representative patient sample by standing up a digital platform for
decentralized clinical trials with eConsent, ePRO/COA, Telemedicine, Telehealth, etc., as
applicable, and implementing integrations with client systems, as needed.
- Outcomes:
Increased patient convenience, resulting in increased participation and compliance
Less patient risk with lower in-person contact (e.g. COVID-19)
Lowered burden on clinical trial sites
Larger patient population in Clinical Trials
2. Digitally Accelerated Clinical Trials (DACT) –
- Objective: Accelerate digitization of clinical trials in order to increase data availability,
reduce on-enrolling sites, and maintain patient retention. A prototype is planned for June
through August.
- Approach: Expand the site-network-as-a-service model to 5 additional studies, which will
lead to more quickly evaluating the value and applicability of this model more broadly.
- Outcomes:
Augment patient trial data with longitudinal EMR data (leading to deeper patient insights for
targeted indications or patients)
Significantly accelerate study start-up timelines and consequently reduce trial conduct
costs.
