Job Title: SharePoint Administrator
Location: Jackson, MS (Remote)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Platform Management & Design:

    • Design, architect, and maintain the SharePoint Online tenant, including hub site architecture, site collections, and information architecture.

    • Guide the strategic progression of SharePoint capabilities to meet evolving organizational needs, focusing on user adoption, productivity, and alignment with business objectives.

    • Implement and manage metadata, content types, and term sets to ensure consistent information management across the enterprise.

  2. Security, Permissions & Compliance:

    • Design and enforce a comprehensive security and permissions model based on least-privilege principles.

    • Manage user access and group membership in coordination with Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), including security groups and Microsoft 365 Groups.

    • Configure and manage Entra ID Connect for hybrid identity synchronization and establish secure B2B guest user access for external collaborators.

    • Ensure the SharePoint environment complies with all relevant state and federal regulations, including FERPA and Mississippi cybersecurity standards.

    • Implement and monitor Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and sensitivity labels for SharePoint content.

  3. Operations, Monitoring & Support:

    • Perform daily administrative tasks: health monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and managing storage limits.

    • Provide Tier 2/3 support for complex SharePoint issues, working with Microsoft support as necessary.

    • Manage service applications, search schema, and search result customization.

    • Develop and execute disaster recovery and data retention policies.

  4. Business Process Automation & Solution Guidance:

    • Design, build, and maintain SharePoint workflows using Power Automate (and classic SharePoint Designer workflows where necessary) to streamline organizational processes.

    • Advise and collaborate with department Power Platform developers on integrating SharePoint with PowerApps and other business solutions.

    • Evaluate and implement third-party SharePoint tools and add-ins when appropriate.

  5. Governance, Training & Documentation:

    • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, operational procedures, governance plans, and user guides.

    • Establish and enforce SharePoint governance policies, including site provisioning, lifecycle management, and content auditing.

    • Conduct training sessions for site owners and end-users to promote best practices and effective platform use.

    • Communicate platform changes, outages, and new features to stakeholders with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Mandatory Skills & Qualifications

  1. SharePoint Expertise:

    • Minimum 3 years of hands-on SharePoint Online administration experience in an enterprise environment (500+ users).

    • Thorough understanding and hands-on experience using Microsoft SharePoint Server Online, including tenant-level settings, SharePoint Admin Center, and PowerShell for SharePoint Online (PnP PowerShell, SPO Management Shell).

    • Thorough understanding of best practices regarding farm design (information architecture) and security permissions (site collection, site, list/library, item-level).

  2. Identity & Access Management:

    • Thorough understanding and hands-on experience using Entra ID (Azure AD) for user/group management, conditional access policies, and authentication.

    • Experience with Entra ID Connect for synchronizing on-premises directories with Azure AD.

    • Experience with B2B guest user access for managing secure external collaboration.

  3. Workflow & Integration:

    • Working knowledge of SharePoint workflows, with practical experience building flows in Power Automate that leverage SharePoint lists and libraries as triggers and data sources.

  4. Professional Skills:

    • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and create clear, detailed technical documentation.

    • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on aligning technology solutions to business goals.

    • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  5. Certifications (One or more preferred, or ability to obtain within 12 months):

    • Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert (MS-102)

    • Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate (MS-700)

    • Microsoft Certified: SharePoint Administrator Associate

  6. Experience in state government, public education, or a highly regulated industry with compliance requirements (FERPA, CJIS, etc.).

  7. Experience with migration tools (SharePoint Migration Tool, Mover) for migrating content from on-premises or other cloud platforms.

  8. Familiarity with the broader Microsoft 365 stack (Power Platform, Purview, Teams) and their integration with SharePoint.

  9. Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for customizing SharePoint user interfaces.

  10. Experience using Microsoft Purview for advanced information governance and eDiscovery

  11. Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

  12. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of professional IT experience, with at least 8 years focused on SharePoint administration (SharePoint Online required).
