COBOL Developer who can analyze code, determine what it is doing, and potentially work with a business analyst to meet with teams and determine if code can be removed.
The following are the required and recommended skills:
Required:
o Detail oriented analytical thinker able to work independently with minimal instruction
o Highly proficient in use of TSO/ISPF.
o COBOL – able to competently read COBOL code in order to analyze relationships to other components, actual coding skills not required.
o JCL – able to analyze and write JCL.
o DB2 – understands the components involved in binding a DB2 application program.
o IMS – understands the various IMS components involved in creating/executing an application in IMS (batch & interactive, including IMS DB (DLI))
o Understands the relationships of all the programs and job components that make a typical mainframe application, IMS, batch, CICS, all with DB2 or IMS DB
Recommended:
o Natural – able to read and understand COBOL code in order to analyze relationships to other components, actual coding skills not required
o ChangeMan use from a Developer’s perspective.
o CICS
o Familiar with CA-7 job scheduling/relationships involved in executing a multi-job batch application.
