Role : Business Report Developer

Location : Seattle, WA (Hybrid 3 days a week in office)

The Business Innovation & Technology (BIT) Process Team has an outstanding opportunity for a Business Report Developer. This individual will report to the Associate Director for Business Intelligence in BIT and will be responsible for driving efforts to improve cross-unit data collection, analysis used to manage work, improve processes, and make decisions.

Position Purpose

The Business Intelligence Report Developer is an important role in the Business Innovation and Technology (BIT) team for delivering on the client strategy to make more data driven business decisions. This position is instrumental in utilizing data for understanding tactical issues in order to establish capital planning roadmaps, influence and manage preventative maintenance decisions, and to align workforce resources. This candidate must be able to effectively work and collaborate across a diverse spectrum of unique backgrounds and professional skill sets operating in hybrid and remote work conditions. This includes translating requirements, database specifications, and reporting needs and in providing technical documentation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This position will directly impact clients ability to utilize data, analysis, and data visualization to articulate business strategies, report on initiative and program results, and identify process and operations issues inhibiting efficiency and effectiveness. Specifically, this role will be responsible for designing, developing, creating, dashboarding, and maintaining critical business and operational reports.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Standardized Reporting

  • Write complex SQL queries for developing stored procedures and organizational reports.
  • Work with several different applications and data warehouse databases and data platforms. (MS SQL, MySQL, & Azure SQL preferred).
  • Design and develop reports using BIRT (Eclipse Business Intelligence Reporting Tool) and SSRS (MS SQL Server Reporting Services).
  • Create and maintain a portfolio and catalog of reports.
  • Respond to users to troubleshoot and/or improve existing reports, including query tuning and performance optimization.

Data Maintenance

  • Become an expert on existing data architectures, policies, and governance.
  • Help maintain, clean, and audit data on a regular basis, ensuring databases are accurate, complete, and usable.
  • Collaborate with team members to collect and analyze data.
  • Provide technical documentation on databases and reporting.

Analytics

  • Fulfill Ad-Hoc data and reporting requests against tight turnaround times.
  • Translate business requirements into specifications that will be used to create reports and dashboards.
  • Use graphs, infographics and other methods to visualize data.
  • Design and develop dashboards using Tableau for reporting business and operational metrics.
  • Work with clients and process owners for the development of KPIs to measure, monitor, and track the businesses operational goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience designing, developing, and implementing reporting solutions.
  • Experience coding SQL.
  • Experience working with reporting software such as SSRS, BIRT, or Crystal.
  • Experience with Excel Pivot Tables and macros.
  • Knowledge of descriptive statistics including mean and median, standard deviation, percentiles, outliers, and distribution.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with Tableau or other reporting and visualization software.
  • Effective participation in team-based work.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders of various levels of authority and expertise across units.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communications skills (both written and oral) are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team with academic researchers and others.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education processes, applications, and systems; familiarity with a complex large research university.
  • Knowledge and understanding of common IT frameworks including the Software Development Life-Cycle (SDLC), Information Technology Service Management (ITSM or ITIL).
  • Experience with JSON, Java, JavaScript, API usage, AiM IQ.
  • Experience with complex infrastructure which includes cloud and on-prem
