Release Train Engineer (RTE)
 
6-Month Contract-to-Hire
 
Pittsburgh, PA (Onsite)

Core Responsibilities

Program Execution & Facilitation
  • Facilitate Agile Release Train (ART) processes, ensuring successful program execution and software delivery
  • Lead ART-level events: Program Increment (PI) Planning, Inspect & Adapt (I&A), Scrum of Scrums (SoS), and System Demos
  • Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART, identifying and removing impediments to team velocity
Planning & Strategy
  • Drive PI planning readiness through pre-PI activities including backlog reviews and preparedness assessments with Product Management, Architects, and Epic Owners
  • Collaborate with Product Management to prioritize the ART Feature Backlog, generate Vision, and build Roadmaps
  • Coordinate cross-train and cross-functional dependencies across multiple ARTs to ensure seamless value delivery
Metrics & Continuous Improvement
  • Track execution of features and capabilities through ART-level metrics (predictability, quality, velocity)
  • Produce and present PI progress reports, quality indicators, and impediment tracking to leadership
  • Drive relentless improvement via post-PI Inspect & Adapt workshops and retrospective facilitation
Risk & Impediment Management
  • Proactively identify, manage, and escalate risks and dependencies
  • Partner with Scrum Masters to resolve team-level blockers and promote high-performing team dynamics
  • Exercise servant leadership to empower teams through transparency and continuous learning

Required Qualifications

Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) from an accredited institution
  • 7+ years of related professional experience (14 - 25 years of overall experience preferred)
  • Minimum 7 years in project management or agile program delivery roles
Certifications (Must be current)
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Required
  • SAFe RTE (Release Train Engineer) or SPC (SAFe Program Consultant) certification preferred
Domain & Technical Expertise
  • Banking/Financial Services Domain Experience MANDATORY
  • Deep expertise with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Lean-Agile principles
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating Scrum, Kanban, and XP methodologies at enterprise scale
  • Proven track record managing Scrum Masters and coaching agile teams
  • Advanced understanding of Agile Release Train mechanics and PI execution
