Job Description :

Project Engineer Interface Management
Location: Toronto, ON, Canada (100% Onsite)
Position type: FTE or contract
All VISA

Must Have: Rail System Engineer, design awareness, interface tracking skills, and ability to manage external stakeholders. Prior DOORS or RM tool exposure.

Role Overview

Target a systems engineer with a strong interface management background, ideally from large metro/rail projects with civil + systems scope.
Civil background is acceptable, but the candidate must demonstrate design awareness, interface tracking skills, and the ability to manage external stakeholders.
Prior DOORS or RM tool exposure is an advantage but not a deal-breaker.

Key Role Requirements

1. High Volume of Interfaces

  • Candidate must manage 100 200 interfaces.
  • Each interface has its own technology; requires breadth of understanding rather than deep specialization.
  • Prior exposure to large-scale, multi-interface projects is a strong plus.

2. Technical & Management Blend

  • Role is not purely managerial - technical judgment is critical.
  • Must understand subsystem interactions (signalling, traction power, MEP, mechanical, communications, etc.).

3. Requirements & Tools

  • Familiarity with DOORS (or equivalent RM tool) preferred.
  • Not just tool knowledge - must grasp requirements, V&V, and validation purpose.
  • Ability to interpret interface requirements, track changes, and feed back into subsystem teams.

4. Background Flexibility

  • Civil, electrical, electronics, or systems engineering backgrounds all considered.
  • Design experience is preferred, as candidate must understand downstream impacts of design changes.
  • Civil background acceptable, especially given civil contractors are the main external interfaces.

5. Stakeholder & External Package Management

  • Must manage external integration consultants and civil contractors.
  • Requires strong stakeholder engagement and ability to coordinate multiple parties.
  • Candidate may come from consultant or owner/operator side, as long as they are hands-on.

Project Context

  • Project: Ontario Line, Downtown Toronto.
  • Interfaces: Primarily with civil contractors and other external suppliers.
  • Contract Duration: 1 year, with possibility of extension or transition depending on project needs.
  • Candidate must be ready to start in a contractor capacity with limited training time.

Deployment Considerations

1. Profile Matching

  • Look for candidates with rail systems integration experience (preferably metro projects).
  • Prior exposure to civil + system integration highly desirable.
  • Should demonstrate memory and tracking ability to handle numerous interfaces.

2. Skill Prioritization

  • Must-have: Multi-technology interface management, requirements management, stakeholder management.
  • Good-to-have: DOORS, design background, exposure to signalling/power/MEP integration.
  • Flexible: Civil engineering background acceptable if coupled with rail experience.

3. Training & Ramp-up

  • Customer stressed minimal training time.
  • Candidate should hit the ground running with prior experience in similar large interface-heavy projects.

4. Soft Skills

  • Decision-making under risk.
  • Strong communication across civil + systems + contractors.
  • Ability to document, justify, and defend technical/managerial decisions.
