Summary:
Work among a team of Oracle Database Administrators providing expert knowledge, skills, and experience of database internals and software for mission-critical campus information systems. Work closely with application development teams to analyze impact of application upgrades, secure, upgrade and tune databases; and make recommendations to improve application performance. Provide Oracle database support in a primarily Linux environment, while working closely with the systems administration team. Ensure databases are configured according to our IS-3 security requirements while also meeting regulatory requirements such as FERPA.
Essential Responsibilities:
Application Database Administrator
- Provide installation, configuration, support for Oracle databases hosting a variety of campus wide critical infrastructure and enterprise applications.
- Work with developers to solve application and/or performance issues
- Upgrade databases with routine security updates while coordinating with application teams to minimize impact to clients
- Monitor databases and respond 24x7 / 365 to ensure availability of databases and supporting applications.
- Assist clients transition from on-premise Oracle environments to Amazon AWS Oracle RDS services.
Client Support
- Support project team on major Oracle upgrades, by performing upgrades while following test plans and keeping project stakeholders informed of status and risks
- Work as a team member by making your work visible to colleagues and stakeholders
- Attend and schedule client meetings to maintain relationships, gather requirements, and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Provide routine status reports to work accomplished to managers and stakeholders.
REQUIRED
- Experience managing Oracle databases in Linux environments.
- Experience monitoring Oracle database performance using tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager
- Skills planning, designing, and implementing enterprise Oracle database environments in support of large-scale application deployments.
- Experience with Linux systems support utilizing tools such as grep, awk, sed, and cron scripts
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing Oracle databases in Windows environments.
- Proficiency in a scripting programming language such as Perl or Java.
