Description
• The Generator Insulation and Non-Metallic Mechanical Engineering role is an individual contributor responsible for the conceptual design, performance analysis, and verification of product components and systems.
• This involves the application of Chemical, Thermo-Mechanical, Electrical and Physical (Mechanical) properties of materials.
• Other activities will be interfacing and supporting manufacturing, suppliers, and business partners to assure that design and test intent from conceptual definition to finished product is achieved.
• The engineer has wide latitude for independent action, judgment, and decision making.
• The role requires qualities to integrate successfully into a global team of engineers.
• He or she must also take direction from other members of the design team and actively take on independent actions for testing and data analysis.
Required Skills
• BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
• Ability to understand high voltage insulation systems and related non-metallic materials
• Strong analytical, experimental, statistical aptitude
• Experience with epoxy, polyester, and Silicone chemistries
• Experience with rotating electrical machinery or electric power engineering
• Experience with mechanical testing for stress strain relationships, HCF/LCF, life cycle testing
• Experience with thermal classification of materials
