Position: Mainframe IMS Location: Remote Contract Job Description Installation of IMS DB/DC and IMS Tools for z/OS product versions/releases. Research and apply proactive software maintenance. Perform problem diagnostics and resolution. Perform IMS Performance monitoring, performance and tune when appropriate. Provide input to management on infrastructure architecture related issues. Use IMS performance reports/metrics to identify improvement opportunities. Conduct Production Readiness Inspections of change events, assessing impacts and risks. Develop wellness check scripts, processes and procedures. Contribute to Root Cause Investigation. Document changes to infrastructure configuration. Update system Configuration and resource definitions when required. General Responsibilities Experience with IMS system software and related program products software installation, migrations, customization and maintenance. Must have experience with SMP/E maintenance utility, DBMS security interfaces, familiar with DBMS connection interfaces to other subsystems (DB2/CICS/etc) and network VTAM/IP functionality. Requires good problem solving skills. Ability to debug & diagnose DBMS system and utility software Requires IMS Sysplex experience & datasharing expertise Various types of IMS restarts (COLD/WARM/ERE Knowledge about IMS SYSGEN process - Defining/Adding Transactions and Programs to the IMS system. Knowledge of IMS Controls Blocks (DBDs, PSBs, ACBs Knowledge of IMS Database Recovery Control (DBRC) concepts and RECON datasets Should be able to handle the annual Disaster Recovery (DR) exercise activities. Sound knowledge about IMS Logging - OLDS; SLDS; WADS;RLDS Command Codes: Concepts and usage of different command codes. Both Type 1 and Type 2 IMS commands and various IMS Utilities Working knowledge of IMS Upgrades. Checkpoint - Restart: Difference between Basic and Symbolic Checkpointing and corresponding Restart logic. Secondary Indexing concepts Fast path database processing concept: Main Storage Databases (MSDBs) and Data Entry Databases (DEDBs) Difference between DLI and BMP modes. Different access methods: HDAM, HIDAM, PHDAM,PHIDAM etc. Design, code and maintain DBMS system exits Performance analysis & tuning for DBMS subsystems IMS Monitoring Tool- Proficient- Required Monitoring tool Proficient in JCL, TSO/SDSF/JES2/SYSVIEW/SMP/E The ability to manage small groups, lead projects and coordinate multiple tasks under time and resource constraints The ability to deal with complex problems and issues and then be able to propose intelligent practical solutions The ability to prioritize workloads effectively to meet changing business needs Ability to work well in a team environment Ability to project a professional image to both outsourced and potential clients Overtime and weekend work occasionally required, some travel may be necessary Must be able to work with staff in geographically diverse locations Experience: 10+ years If your skills match these requirements please send your resume to for immediate consideration.
