Position Summary

The Linux Systems Engineer III manages and oversees design, administration, support and maintenance of enterprise-level Unix and Linux systems. The Engineer also provides expert professional assistance and internal consulting to departments on technical infrastructure design and support issues to meet business, operating and data management needs.

 

Summary Essential Job Functions

·        Supervises and participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, policies, systems and procedures to achieve long-range and annual goals, objectives and work standards.

·        Develops and maintains strong customer relationships to ensure effective service delivery and customer satisfaction; interacts with customers regularly to develop and refine requirements, gain agreement on solutions and deliverables, report on progress, monitor satisfaction, identify and resolve concerns and conflicts and seek cooperation, involvement and action to achieve mutual objectives.

·        Supervises and participates in managing infrastructure projects; develops project feasibility and scope of work project boundaries, detailed project plans, milestones and deadlines.

·        Coordinates the design, build, installation, maintenance and support of an effective, reliable interoperating infrastructure to promote the sharing of information and operations; oversees the monitoring of system and network performance; forecasts requirements and performs capacity planning studies; oversees maintenance and modification of systems to expand capacity and maintain operations to meet enterprise requirements; recommends the purchase and upgrade of server hardware and software.

Position Requirements

·        BS Degree and or equivalent work experience in a technical discipline

·        A minimum of 5 years of experience in advanced technical roles with substantive knowledge of all facets of IT operations management, high availability network, disaster recovery architectures, security, and application hosting in on-premise and cloud environments.

·        Mastery of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Solaris operating systems.

·        Experience in building and maintaining Red Hat Satellite

·        Experience in architecting, designing, configuring, managing and maintaining OpenShift clusters.

·        Must have very strong work experience with configuration automation and orchestration using tools like Ansible and Terraform in on-premise and cloud environments.

·        Very strong scripting experience in bash or python.

·        Experience in building and managing web servers such as Apache HTTP, Nginx and Apache Tomcat using automation and orchestration tools.

·        Experience in building and maintaining Kafka and ELK Clusters.

·        Experience in configuring CI/CD pipelines and deploying Helm charts.

·        Experience working in a Dev/Ops environment.

·        Experience in working with Git or GitLab.

·        Experience in setting up Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments using automation.

·        Must have experience implementing and managing large enterprise-class server environments.

·        Must be able to work closely within a high-performing team. Good attitude and ability to assist and integrate with other engineers are essential.

·        Experience in working in a VMware environment.

·        Familiarity with system and application monitoring tools such Solarwinds Orion, Prometheus, and AppDynamics

·        Practical understanding of networking - routing, subnets, UDP, TCP, IP, & VLANs.

·        Must have strong communication skills and ability to work individually, within a team, with other groups and with customers.

·        Must have ability to communicate complex technical problems concisely and professionally to technical and non-technical audiences.

·        Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint.

·        Comfortable managing highly-available complex infrastructure with 24/7 availability and support

·        Some knowledge or experience with PostgreSQL database servers.

·        Some knowledge or experience with F5 Load Balancers.
