Role – Sr. Data Scientist
Location: - Chicago, IL
Duration: - 12 months

The Sr Data Scientist will play a leadership role to start, build and scale advanced analytics across the client. The candidate is expected to apply strong expertise in machine learning, data-driven decision making and associated technology/systems to design, prototype and implement next generation analytics engine and services.
Essential Functions:
Help build, grow and mentor a Data Science team – process, education, technology, and down the road, additional talent
Understand business problems, design end-to-end analytics use cases, and ensure successful business process integration; ideally with experience in the insurance industry
Develop models and algorithms in support of the business use cases/process described above from concept to production
Conduct advanced statistical analysis to provide actionable insights, identify trends, and measure performance
Collaborate with both business and IT subject matter experts (SMEs) to implement and deploy solutions
Provide thought leadership by researching best practices, conducting experiments, and demonstrating/articulating value proposition
Experienced with creating and delivering presentations and demonstrations to executives
Ability to travel to company HQs in Sioux Falls, Des Moines and Chicago per the needs of a project
Experience with PowerBI for data visualization
Participate in other transformation, analytics, customer journey projects as necessary
Demonstrable track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment
Experience diving into data to discover hidden patterns (ideally in addition to others, using techniques like Sankey diagrams)
Able to write production level code, which is well-written and explainable
Experience (core):
A minimum of four years of experience in a statistical or data science role
Deep knowledge of machine learning statistics, optimization or related field
Experience with R, Python, SAS and/or background in programming
Experience working with large data sets, simulation/optimization, and distributed computing tools
MS/PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics or related technical discipline
Ability to independently research, analyze and resolve problem situations using good judgment and sound decision making.
Strong initiative, self-motivation and ability to work independently.
Ability to handle multiple projects at one time and effectively work under deadline pressures.
Other experience:
Experience w/ Data Robot
Experience with Hadoop, Azure, Snowflake or similar
Experience with initiatives such as life insurance underwriting, annuity suitability, sales modeling, fraud detection, claims, etc
Experience in insurance and financial services, specifically life insurance and annuities
