We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Project Control Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering group within the ASI Division. This position is located in Poway, CA.

The Project Control Engineer is a unique hybrid role that combines engineering design with systems engineering and project management to support the delivery of technically robust Mechanical Engineering products related to optical mechanical systems, hardware design, electronics packaging, and structural design. The Project Control Engineer will develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, conduct recurring reviews of projects to identify concerns with cost/schedule/technical risks, communicate status amongst key project stakeholders, and provide feedback on refinement/improvement of internal processes. Assignments are normally accompanied by general instructions and suggestions, outlining possible approaches, sources of information, and potential problems to be encountered with work reviewed regularly for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy.



Under general direction with limited review, this position is responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving unusual or complex engineering problems. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of overall objectives and anticipated results. Work is reviewed at milestones or at completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Initiates the planning of engineering projects and develops innovative designs or modifications to meet project goals. Independently performs difficult/complex engineering work with instructions as to the general expected results. Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff and makes technical presentations as required. May coordinate segments of a specific project and may have frequent inter- organization and customer contact on difficult technical issues. Provides direction to design or technical staff and may provide direction to less experienced professional staff.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates for Mechanical Engineering scope of future GA-ASI workload
  • Develop and maintain project plans including identification of key stakeholders, tailoring of design controls process, task definition to support efficient project tracking, and schedules with critical programmatic and internal design milestones
  • Manage design requirements throughout the development process including documentation, traceability to customer/internal requirements, verification and validation methodology, and tracking of artifacts for qualification packages
  • Periodically conduct holistic evaluations of project health using available project planning data and make recommendations to ME staff for successful project execution
  • Communicate progress and path forward with regard to cost, schedule, and technical risk of ME scope amongst key project stakeholders
  • Support project execution via generation of presentations, engineering memos, test plans, test reports, statements of work and other documents
  • Effectively interface across multi-disciplinary teams including other functional engineering departments, manufacturing, procurement, and test facilities (system, ground and flight)
  • Evaluate completed projects for refinement/process improvements and provide recommendations for lessons learned, internal process updates, and training opportunities
  • May provide subcontractor management via support for proposals
  • May represent ME organization at technical and programmatic meetings with customer and sub-contractors
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD.
  • Understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in an evolving, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, interpret and explain moderately complex information as well as the ability to communicate and interface effectively with all levels of personnel.
