Job Description :
Position: SAP CAR Consultant Inventory Allocation
Location: Knoxville, TN (Onsite 4 5 days/week) Contract duration: 6+ Months
Visa: Prefer US Citizens or Green Cards
Notes from the Manager:
  • Person will be heavily involved in fixing issues that have prevented the S/4 Cutover. Need to implement CAR ASAP (currently using a bespoke version of Island Pacific Retail, which doesn''t give the visibility they need from SAP CAR).
  • This is focused on CAR Allocation, NOT S/4 Allocation.
  • Primary goal is to automate inventory allocation from a central warehouse to stores using barcode scanning minimizing manual counting or breaking down boxes
  • Past pain points with pre-pack logic have reportedly been resolved via recent SAP demo
Project Context
  • Net-new CAR implementation; no existing CAR footprint
  • Replaces legacy Island Pacific Retail Planning
  • Scope: OAA, MPR, AMR, PMR modules
  • Allocation flow: Vendor 3PL crossdock store (no central DC)
  • Automation: Cluster-based allocation rules, barcoding, minimal manual touchpoints
  • Integration: SAP CAR S/4HANA via SLT + DFROUT
  • Must go live before Jan 2026 S/4 cutover
Job Description: A leading U.S. retailer is launching a net-new SAP Customer Activity Repository (CAR) implementation to transform its inventory allocation process across a 150+ store footprint. This program will replace a legacy retail planning system and implement CAR modules for Omnichannel Article Availability (OAA), Merchandise & Procurement (MPR), Allocation Management for Retail (AMR), and Promotion Management for Retail (PMR). The solution will automate allocation from vendor through a 3PL crossdock to stores, using predefined clusters, barcoding, and minimal manual handling. This role requires a hands-on solution lead who has successfully designed and delivered CAR allocation solutions in a retail environment including crossdock flows, cluster allocation rules, and integration to S/4HANA. Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as overall solution lead for SAP CAR design, configuration, and delivery
  • Design automated allocation logic using cluster-based rules in AMR and related modules
  • Align CAR allocation design with business processes for vendor > 3PL crossdock > store flows
  • Configure CAR to support pre-pack level allocation with unit-level goods receipt in S/4
  • Integrate CAR to S/4HANA using SLT and DFROUT, ensuring allocation table accuracy
  • Lead solution workshops, demonstrate system capabilities, and guide design decisions
  • Collaborate with partner SI resources (Infosys, SAP) while owning the overall functional outcome
  • Ensure allocation solution delivers reporting outputs required by the planning department
  • Oversee UAT, cutover preparation, and post-go-live support for allocation processes
Required Experience
  • Multiple end-to-end SAP CAR implementations in retail, including AMR and at least one of OAA, MPR, PMR
  • Deep experience designing cluster-based allocation rules and crossdock allocation flows
  • Strong understanding of pre-pack vs. unit-level goods receipt processing in CAR + S/4
  • Hands-on configuration skills across CAR allocation and integration points to S/4HANA
  • Proven ability to act as primary solution lead with both strategic and delivery responsibilities
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence senior business and IT leader
  • Experience integrating CAR with barcode/scanning solutions and 3PL operations
  • Background in retail planning system migration (e.g., Island Pacific)
