The Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS) seeks a Data Architect, who has extensive experience designing and implementing data management strategies at the enterprise level in support of delivering best-in-class, data-driven solutions for the organization. The successful candidate will possess a strong technical background and can showcase proven excellence in the design and successful production implementation of various databases, data warehouses, and data lakes. The DFS Data Architect will be experienced with several technologies, to include those that are cloud-based to support all facets of data architecture design and business intelligence, to include those focused on ETL/ELT, data modeling, and data storage that focuses on performance. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with leading data integration tools such as Informatica PowerCenter and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and should also have experience with cloud-based data integration services such as AWS Glue and Azure Data Factory. The Data Architect will design, develop and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models, perform data profiling and analysis, and ensure that data models correspond to business and technical requirements. This senior resource will have extensive experience with data modeling tools such as ER/Studio, PowerDesigner, Erwin, Oracle SQL Developer, and Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect and be comfortable with various database platforms such as SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. The successful candidate will also have experience with cloud database environments, to include but not limited to, AWS and Azure. The DFS Data Architect should also have experience designing, developing, and maintaining data models that provide data for business intelligence and predictive analytics tools such as AWS QuickSight, SAP Business Objects, SAS, MicroStrategy, and Qlik products. To that end, the resource should have experience and be extremely comfortable working in a team environment that includes software/BI developers, business and data analysts, data warehouse DBAs, data scientists, business users, and members of DFS executive management. The Data Architect will have excellent communication skills and experience functioning in the role of a technical team lead. The resource will work with DFS business and technical teams to analyze business processes, operational applications and source data to understand dependencies, anomalies and implicit business rules that impact the ability to manage master data. The successful candidate will adhere to all current Federal standards for data security and develop, document, and provide an enterprise data/information architecture strategy for DFS. Roles and Responsibilities ? Will identify and analyze source systems and necessary data storage and database operations. ? Develop or assist in the development in data dictionaries for data that must be extracted, transformed, and loaded. ? Define source to target data mappings. ? Designs, develops, implements, and maintains conceptual, logical, and physical data models. ? Will develop or assist in the development of a documented enterprise data architecture that ensures a standardized process for data collection, storage, and consumption. ? Will oversee the development of a data warehouse and a data lake for structured and unstructured data respectively. ? When necessary, functions as a technical team lead supervising the work of data warehouse DBAs/data modelers, ETL developers, PL/SQL developers. ? Creates and updates existing entity relationship diagrams. ? Provide optimization for new and existing database systems. ? Works with data scientists to identify future needs and requirements. ? Responsible for data modeling, system/data analysis, design and development for applications, data marts & semantic layer to support analytics and reporting needs. ? Exercises strong communication skills verbally and in writing, interfaces easily with both business and technical audiences, and acts as the Subject Matter Expert in key data areas such as data quality, data integration, master data governance, and security.
