data modeling, means one needs to be able to read, analyze and digest what a business wants to accomplish with its data, and design the best possible ETL process around those goals
Communication skill should be good as it would certainly be helpful

Strong SQL, UNIX, Autosys and ETL concepts such as 3NF, Dimensional models, facts loads, surrogate key, joins, data comparison across tables, automated job executions, shell scripting
