General Summary:
The Senior User Experience Designer position plays a leading role in the creation of a market-leading user experience (UX) by providing high-quality designs, graphics, mock-ups and layouts for both new and existing web sites and applications. This will be accomplished by designing the user interface for websites, online applications and other digital outputs. The role works on significant market facing deliveries and may work across several BDH or Value Streams.

This position will lead cross functional teams to understand the customer need and create software solutions that are easy to use and provide a highly engaging experience. The role requires a thorough understanding of usability design principles and best practices, along with an understanding of how visual and interaction design work together to create a world-class user experience. The Senior role leads a broader team to ensure consistency across implementations and methodologies employed. The Senior User Experience Designer plays a critical role in mentoring User Experience Designers and other agile team members to ensure we are creating market-leading experiences and growing future talent within the agile teams.
Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, relevant business experience
6+ years of experience designing user experiences and interaction design for rich interactive web sites and/or applications
Be passionate about resolving user pain points through great design.
Excellent communication and influencing skills – able to present and win approval for concepts from senior leadership.
Ability to work on many projects and team in parallel.
Broad range of experiences from different industries and practices
Exceptional user interface and experience design skills and an understanding of user-centered design disciplines and principals, as well as an eye for subtle detail
Passion for results – bringing forward new methods or tools to help advance the user experience.
Clearly demonstrates analytical ability and critical thinking skills
Proven experience designing for multiple devices, such as mobile and tablet
Excite and inspire teams to prioritize the User in the work that they do
Expert using the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, and standard UX software such as Sketch, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer, and the like. Basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus.
Ability to work as part of an Agile team and influence business partners, Product Owner, development team on the need for strong UX design
A solid understanding of modern web technologies and interaction patterns and experience in designing complex solutions for complete digital environments including mobile-first and responsive design.
Insurance background beneficial
Experience in participating on project teams and ability to clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and clients.
Ability to resolve issues and conflicts with team members
Possess effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Operates with a sense of urgency to meet tight deadlines.
Self-starter and detail-oriented, passionate about all things UX and other areas of design and innovation.
Research and showcase knowledge in the industry’s latest trends and technologies.
Develop and promote Accessibility standards across the organization.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Help define and oversee the UX process across Unum, ensuring best practices are employed across different teams
Actively feed ideas and suggestions on how to improve the UX for Unum’s customers to the AVP User Experience, and work with that person to refine and roll out best of breed practices to all teams.
Help set and police standards across different teams
Define and reinforce adherence to Accessibility Standards
Works both as a team member on individual UX assignments for the majority of the time, but will help provide cross-team support, standardization, best practices and interconnection.
Partners with business Product Owner, Marketing roles, Scrum team members, and subject matter experts to support the development of user interfaces that are implementable on the web.
Develops user interfaces that will bring an exceptional and consistent user experience across multiple digital platforms that are consistent and reinforcing of the corporate brand.
Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive and excellent user experiences.
Facilitate the Product Owner’s vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping and user-testing experiences for digital products.
Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs.
Actively bring in ideas from other industries and companies that would benefit
Ensures that the user experience is applied consistently by overseeing the use of brand guidelines, color, font, icons and other artifacts, and ensures compliance with Accessibility Standards.
Provide feedback to Marketing on Brand standards, guidelines and direction.
Monitors best practices, trends and new technologies and evaluates them for possible adoption.
