SQL DBA

Assists in planning, coordination, configuration, installation, and management of RDBMS within the enterprise to meet business requirements. Has key responsibility to assist in the identification and resolution of hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions related to RDBMS. Makes decisions in the areas of throughput analysis, problem solving, and infrastructure planning within department standard operating procedures. Ensures data is backed up in a timely manner and the backups are available in the event data recovery in necessary. Assists in various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the RDBMS infrastructure. Applies knowledge of RDBMS management and operating system performance in support of data collection and analysis activities to predict future capacity requirements; Capture and analysis of application software behavior accessing the RDBMS; Assisting software developers on ways to optimize utilization of RDBMS resources; Evaluation/implementation of technologies such as data compression and buffer pool allocation to increase RDBMS performance. Assists in user projects intended to continually improve/upgrade applications accessing the RDBMS.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
Accountable for availability of database resources to users and production applications. Maintain user satisfaction by providing high availability to corporate resources and by responding in a timely manner to user requests for service.
Accountable for maintaining the development, testing and production database environments. Assure the expedient and effective resolution of problems that arise. Install appropriate updates to remain current on technology.
Accountable for monitoring databases for resource utilization and providing ongoing trend analyses for determining current needs and forecasting future resources requirements.
Accountable for staying current with RDBMS trends to ensure that industry best practices are followed as they relate to RDBMS management.
Skills needed:
4 to 7 years of IS experience with at least 2 years of experience as a DBA in one or more environments.
Vendor certification is highly desirable.
A degree from a four-year college is highly desirable.
Good written and oral communications skills.
Ability to interact with vendors.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and troubleshoot problems with speed and efficiency is required.
