Job description:
Manages the enterprise mainframe server strategy and capacity planning functions including the configuration, maintenance and implementation of mainframe servers
Supervises the Mainframe Server Capacity Planning and Forecasting team
Responsible for the mainframe technology strategy, server and software capacity planning functions, configurations and efficient usage of enterprise mainframe servers
Key functional responsibilities include developing and maintaining a 5 year mainframe server strategy, providing weekly mainframe server capacity assessments, maintaining mainframe server capacity forecasts, providing monthly enterprise server capacity health check reviews to executive management, maintaining disaster recovery server capacity and configurations.
Partners with other mainframe infrastructure teams, Capacity Governance, Vendor Management and Sourcing to optimize hardware procurement, installation, cost saves and cost-avoidance.
Primary liaison with vendors, consultants and senior technical managers
Responsible for staffing, performance management and compensation decision making
Ensures proper training and development of staff
Required:
Information technology degree and/or technology certifications preferred or substantial equivalent experience.
Must possess strong mathematical, statistical and analytical skills, have a complete understanding of Mainframe capacity planning concepts and be able to support capacity forecasting.
Must have extensive knowledge of IBM System z server hardware and in-depth working knowledge of RMF and SMF data.
Must be proficient with RMF, MICS, SAS, MXG and Omegamon.
Must be able to communicate and lead effectively.
Typically 7-10 years of IT experience with a minimum 2-3 years with managerial background in a mainframe IT related field.
Desired:
Preferred candidate would have experience with simulation or analytical modeling
Have a good understanding of queuing theory
Possess zPCR experience and basic subsystem knowledge
Working knowledge of Defined Capacity
