A Senior SQL Developer with 10–15 years of experience is responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining complex relational database systems, driving data architecture decisions, and ensuring high performance, scalability, and security. This role often involves leading database initiatives, mentoring junior developers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support enterprise applications and data-driven solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Database Design & Architecture
Design and implement scalable, normalized, and performance-optimized database structures.Develop logical and physical data models for enterprise applications.Lead database architecture decisions and contribute to long-term data strategy.
Advanced SQL Development
Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, functions, and triggers.Implement complex ETL processes and data integration workflows.Ensure SQL code follows best practices, standards, and security guidelines.
Performance Tuning & Optimization
Perform query tuning, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.Optimize database performance, troubleshooting slow-running queries and resource bottlenecks.Conduct capacity planning and monitor overall database health.
Data Management & Governance
Ensure data integrity, quality, security, and consistency across environments.Implement data retention, archival strategies, and compliance with regulatory requirements.Develop and maintain documentation for schemas, processes, and governance policies.
ETL, Reporting & BI Support
Build and maintain ETL pipelines using tools like SSIS, Informatica, Talend, or custom scripts.Support reporting platforms (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, etc.) by optimizing data models and queries.Integrate data from various sources to support analytics and business insights.
Database Administration (Optional/Hybrid Role)
Work with DBAs or perform DBA tasks: backups, restores, patching, replication, and security.Implement disaster recovery and high availability strategies.
8. DevOps / CI-CD Integration (Senior-Level Expectation)
Integrate database code into CI/CD workflows (Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jenkins, etc.).Automate deployment of SQL scripts, schema changes, and migration workflows.
Required Skills & Expertise
10–15 years of hands-on SQL development experience.Expertise in SQL Server / Oracle / PostgreSQL / MySQL (specify based on role).Strong understanding of database internals, indexing, locking, and execution plans.Advanced ETL skills and experience with large-scale data processing.Proficiency in performance tuning and troubleshooting.Experience with cloud databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL) is a plus.Familiarity with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra) is a benefit.Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
