Role Overview

A Mainframe Developer designs, develops, tests, and maintains applications running on mainframe systems. They primarily work with technologies like IBM z/OS, COBOL, JCL, PL/I, and databases such as IBM Db2.

Location : Chicago (Must be local to Chicago)

Experience : 2 to 4 years

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and other mainframe technologies.

  • Analyze business requirements and convert them into technical specifications.

  • Write, test, and debug batch and online programs.

  • Work with databases like IBM Db2 and IMS (Information Management System).

  • Perform code reviews, system testing, and performance tuning.

  • Support production systems and resolve application issues.

  • Collaborate with system analysts, testers, and business teams.

  • Maintain documentation of applications and processes.

Required Skills :

Technical Skills

  • COBOL programming

  • JCL (Job Control Language)

  • CICS (Customer Information Control System) – online transaction processing

  • IBM Db2 / IMS databases

  • IBM z/OS operating system

  • Batch processing

  • File handling (VSAM)
