Job Title : Database Engineer (L3) Location: Newark, CA Duration: Contract Job Description: The Senior Database Engineer (Database Engineer III) is responsible for the enterprise-wide administration of the Oracle, MariaDB/MySQL database infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to Oracle, MySQL/Maria DB Clusters, PostgreSQL BDR and/or large Database Management Systems (DBMSs Responsibilities including open source database administration, architectural design, development, integration, and support. Guidance to less experienced DBAs and developers for ongoing process improvement is also emphasized. The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. How you will help: Must be able to Multi-task and prioritize without much supervision. Database cluster connectivity and security Conduct database training Software installation and configuration Database patching and upgrading Using monitoring and management tools Troubleshoot various issues with other dba's/developers Point of Contact for Vendor escalation Point of Contact for professional service to Customers Cross platform migration from Oracle to MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL Support the creation, maintenance, and implementation of procedures regarding how problems are identified, received, documented, distributed, and corrected Ensures project documentation is complete, current, and stored appropriately Manages day-to-day project and scope changes Communicate and coordinate database changes, backups, and downtime to users Identifies potential security issues and recommend strategies to ensure database security Research and evaluate new technologies Proactively monitor systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints Establish standards and best practices for SQL Perform database backup and recovery Provides 24x7 support for enterprise database systems Secondary Functions Must provide mentoring and training to other staff members Must have knowledge on Maria/MySQL binary Install, upgrade and patch databases Write procedural documentation including requirements for databases Develop and coordinate knowledge transfer Establishes enterprise-wide uniform infrastructure, including supporting defined departmental content processes and creating guidelines for content deployment Interacts with business units to gather, define, and organize delivery of business solutionsData Modeling, design & implementation based on established standards Automate manual tasks Who we have in mind: Candidate with a college Degree and relevant work experience 8+ years hands-on DBA experience with Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL and supporting tools Strong experience with Linux is required, including command line editors, scripting (shell, Python, Perl, etc Experience in database performance tuning and strong SQL tuning skills Experience in database and cross platform upgrades required Experience in all aspects of the software development lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing and production support Must be familiar with RDBMS concepts, practices, and procedures Must have knowledge of network connectivity Extensive experience with Export/Import, Backup and Recovery Extensive experience with Database Replication Master/Slave, Master/Master (BDR) Extensive experience with MySQL (MariaDB, Percona) Gelara cluster Proficient in SQL Language Knowledge of ServiceNow, or similar Ticket Management Software Knowledge of SAN infrastructure Ability to work on projects at a time Knowledge of middle-tier application servers Strong trouble shooting and problem resolution skills Good knowledge of Data Modeling
