Job Description :

The Role of the Senior Cyber Security Engineer is to act as the global technical security engineering and design authority, accountable for aligned portfolios working within Cloud Security Engineering team and the UK & US businesses. The role requires a broad and varied knowledge base to lead security engineering activities, and ensure National Grid has appropriate capabilities in place for the effective identification, protection, detection, and response to sophisticated cyber-attacks targeted at National Grid.

The role underpins all technical activity undertaken by Cloud Security Engineering, accountable for the appropriate and effective design, delivery and management of cyber security technologies and processes. The role will provide technical oversight and direction for the overall cloud security services, solution design and implementation ensuring it is compatible with target state security architecture, delivering fully effective security services, encompassing identification through to remediation.

As the subject matter expert in the cyber security capabilities within Cloud Security, the role requires problem solving and hands-on implementation experience to determine appropriate configuration and integration of technology solutions that can best manage the risk posture of National Grid and assist in our overall Digital Resilience. The role also requires liaising with Cybersecurity Incident Response Team on a regular basis, understanding their needs/concerns and addressing them by implementing an effective and enduring solution.

Strong, engineering, analytical and organizational skills are required, combined with previous experience in a cloud security engineering or similar senior role, demonstrating the confidence to act without constant supervision, to protect NG services through sound security engineering.



Key Accountabilities:
Contribute to design of Cloud Security services that would be part of annual cybersecurity roadmap
Hands-on implementation of security configurations, policies and tuning as necessary without direct supervision
Act as SME leading engineering requirements for business initiatives, reconfiguring designs and configuration of protection and detection capabilities
Remain up to date with advances in security tool technologies and could present such information to senior management
SME consulting for projects in deploying security tools in both design and implementation phases
Build and maintain relationships internally within National Grid & externally with external vendors
Regularly assess vulnerabilities in our Cloud estate as engineering SME and implement remediations considering stakeholder/business impact
Provide technical risk assessments as required and deliver recommendations and mitigation options.

Knowledge & Experience Required:
Demonstrate experience of managing and maintaining Security solutions within commercial public Cloud environments.
Experience of working within DevOps environment augmenting security capabilities to it
Previous roles in Cloud Security Engineering
Previous experience liaising with incident management teams to ensure any incidents are handled efficiently and in a timely manner

Qualifications Required/Desirable:
Degree level or demonstrable equivalent experience
Cloud Security certifications: Azure/AWS/GCP
Knowledge/certifications related to containerization technologies, orchestration platform and DevOps security highly desired

Job Dimensions:
The Senior Cyber Security Engineer role will oversee day to day maintenance (including tuning, administration & policy changes) of all deployed Cloud Security toolsets. Carry out break fix activity and provide engineering input into existing and future Cyber Security Operations projects

Desirable Skills:
o Experience in customizing security configurations in Cloud Security Posture Management solution (CSPM).
o Ability to deploy, configure and maintain Cloud Workload Protection (CWP) capabilities in containerized environments
