Job Description

As an in-vehicle software engineer you can join a team of dedicated and forward-thinking individuals committed to zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion! In this role you'll be collaborating on a SCRUM team to build and deliver customer centric infotainment experiences - like the Alexa voice assistant. You’ll be writing Android/Java code and unit tests, as well as participate in all parts of the software delivery lifecycle including sprint planning, development, demos, retrospectives and deployment to production vehicles!

Responsibilities

  • Write, test and debug Android software on embedded vehicle systems with agility
  • Analyze software defects; resolve root cause, build software solution, test and verify closure.
  • Collaborate with teams from multiple groups to meet project landmarks
  • Participate and contribute to agile events - sprint planning, daily standup, sprint review, retrospectives and scaled agile events, specifically PI planning
  • Develop software code packages in Java, Kotlin and Javascript
  • Develop and automate test cases to maintain product quality
  • Maintain and continuously improve team’s workflow and deployment processes
  • Perform analysis, resolution, and tracking of defects to closure
  • Collaborate and participate in architecture, requirements, design, code, and test case reviews.
  • Work closely with other team leads to support triage and resolution of intricate system problems in a timely manner
  • Interact and facilitate with internal teams and external development partners during all phases of development and integration

Required experience and skills

  • BS in Computer Science or other related field of study and applicable work experience
  • 5+ years of experience on a team developing native Android apps.
  • Crafting and writing software technical specifications, writing software code and performing unit testing
  • Writing automated tests, preferably using test driven development patterns
  • Applying current technology to tackle technical problems and ensuring system and application performance is optimized
  • Working with business units to improve efficiency and remove barriers in applications
  • Working with product teams on new product ideas, designs, prototypes and estimates
  • Maintaining coding standards to facilitate code maintenance and improvement
  • Providing deep systems support (programming, architecture, system analysis) for the Applications team
  • Experience on SCRUM teams

Preferred experience

  • 2+ years in an automotive environment
  • Experience with Java 8 and RX Java in a production application
  • Experience developing apps that interact with web services (REST, JSON)
  • Experience with frameworks such as Dagger and design patterns such as MVP, Singleton, Factory
  • Experience with native Android HIG and UI development standard methodologies – Android Material Design
  • Experience with scaled agile framework
  • Experience with building for virtual assistants
  • Experience with Android Studio and Auto
  • Experience with the publishing process for Google app store
