POSITION OBJECTIVES: To provide configuration, installation, maintenance, and support services to operational computer networks and other information technology infrastructure components. To work and communicate in a team-oriented environment in accordance with the vision, mission, and values of the Cooperative.

MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Require Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology field or Associates degree in the field of Information Technology with an additional five (5) years’ experience if candidate is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree through an approved and accredited educational program. Prefer one or more professional certifications in information technology directly related to the technologies in use at Jackson EMC. Prefer successful completion of the Cisco Certified Network Associate and/or Juniper Networks Certification programs.

EXPERIENCE: Require five (5) years’ experience configuring and maintaining computer networking infrastructure utilized by the cooperative. Require a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in operating systems utilized by the cooperative.

KNOWLEDGE: Require a solid working knowledge in computer systems and networking with an emphasis on network hardware configuration, management, and deployment, including specific knowledge in switching, routing, and structured cabling standards. Prefer knowledge of wireless technologies and VOIP. Require the ability to pursue a continuous program of self-development both inside and outside of work hours in furthering his/her knowledge to develop in the job and accept increasing responsibilities.
SKILLS: Require effective leadership skills, excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to work in a team environment. Require the ability to effectively configure, deploy, and maintain network infrastructure, associated systems, and security protocols in use at Jackson EMC. Require the ability to monitor daily activity, troubleshoot, and resolve network communication problems.

Internal: Actively participates within the Cooperative team environment to develop supportive relationships essential to the success of the functions of this position, achieving the results expected and encouraging throughout the organization the concepts of teamwork and cooperative spirit.
External: Develops and maintains supportive relationships with member/consumers, the general public, and other external contacts to assure positive results
This position is primarily sedentary work; requires visual acuity in machine operation with inspection; requires ability to hear, talk, and perform repetitive motions; and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. As directed, configure and install computer communication networks for optimum performance and efficiency.
2. Provide wiring, cabling, and other infrastructure installation services.
3. Perform network troubleshooting to isolate, diagnose, and resolve network problems. Travel to district offices, substations, tower sites, or other locations when required, to troubleshoot network problems and document any changes to the network infrastructure.
4. Proactively monitor computer network traffic and resource usage, analyze results, and adjust network parameters and/or hardware infrastructure to provide optimum bandwidth utilization and data throughput.
5. Configure networking parameters on company workstations in order to ensure maximum operating results and data throughput for the company’s information systems.
6. Maintain up-to-date documentation library of all device configurations, as well as protocols and standards.
7. Regulate access to information infrastructure resources by establishing and maintaining network security.
8. Maintain firewalls, cryptography systems, and all network security activities. Develop and review reports, activity logs, and messages to identify instances of possible security infractions.
9. Attend training sessions as necessary to maintain up-to-date knowledge of computer & networking hardware, system software, and application software.
10. Notify immediate supervisor of equipment malfunctions and suspected malfunctions or deficiencies that may affect data integrity or network performance.
11. Maintain and promote a high level of awareness regarding cyber threats from both internal and external sources. Promote and comply with cybersecurity policies and best practices.
12. Be familiar with and follow the best safety practices set forth in the Cooperative’s Safety Manual.
