Job Overview:

As a Sr. Database Administrator, you’ll be responsible for activities and projects related to the design, development, implementation, and support of client''s complex, highly-available, 24x7, Microsoft SQL Server databases. You’ll align with the client’s Self Service eCommerce, Airline Operations, and IT Infrastructure verticals to deliver available, stable, and performant database services to achieve customer and business objectives.

Responsibilities:

Provide deep technical knowledge and leadership to a team responsible for the support of Microsoft SQL Server databases in a 24x7 highly available environment, including follow-the-sun team members and participation in on-call and escalation responsibilities, placing database security at the forefront.
Considered highly skilled and proficient in SQL DBA discipline. Works under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment. Typically requires 10+ years’ experience in a mission critical production database environment, including SQL 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
Strong background and experience with all BC and DR capabilities of Microsoft SQL Server with a practical understanding of other Infrastructure BC/DC capabilities, including Always-On, Mirroring, Log Shipping, Clustering and mirroring.
Metric driven individual leveraging capacity planning and trending to proactively identify potential problems and mitigate before they result in customer impact.
Collaborate both vertically and horizontally to evolve overall database services and technology strategies.
Respectfully challenging the status quo looking at technology and processes with fresh eyes constantly asking should we do it differently.
Understand the place of automation and standardization when delivering stable, maintainable, and performant database services at scale.
Perform platform, database, and query optimization.

Knowledge/Skills Required:

10+ years of IT experience required
Experience implementing automation of Microsoft SQL Server deployment and maintenance, and support activities
Experience supporting SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS
Expert level knowledge of SQL Server database backup and recovery
MS SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2016, plus Transact-SQL programming experience
MS SQL Server database replication & Always On mirroring, plus MS Windows clustered server experience
Strong experience supporting and troubleshooting MS SQL Clusters

Preferred:

10+ years of recent SQL DBA experience
Very large Database (10+ TB) experience
MSSQL 2014 In Memory knowledge
Oracle experience a plus
MongoDB or Couchbase DB experience a plus
AWS RDS experience a plus
IBM CDC experience a BIG plus
IBM IIB experience a BIG plus
IBM DVM experience a plus
Experience with PowerShell or other scripting languages a plus
Experience with PCI, SOC, and SQL Auditing a plus

Education:

BS in Computer Science, Engineering, related discipline and/or equivalent work experience required

Certification:

Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) preferred

Other:

Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

*Additional Notes from Hiring Manager*

Position is for an Enterprise Database Administrator.
Some development expected of this person, but not a lot - will be operating at an enterprise level.
After hours/On call support required - on a rotation.
Will support infrastructure projects, including one where all applications, web services, and common databases are being moved from one legacy SQL environment to a new Tier 1 environment.
Must be an effective communicator and problem solver.
Manager will conduct phone screens, followed by onsite interviews. Open to Skype for candidates that are not currently local and interested in relocating as a first, but they *MUST interview F2F as a final round The manager will NOT hire from a Skype interview.
Extension after a year highly likely.
