Job Title: Business Intelligence Engineer
Location: Richmond, VA
Duration: 6 months contract-to-hire
Job Description: The IT Actuarial Services group is looking for a Process Engineer with a strong technical aptitude for problem solving without a handbook in a multi-faceted environment. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner with a desire to understand business processes/IT systems, identify enhancement/automation opportunities and implement solutions – someone who is driven by fixing and enhancing. A variety of experiences and skills would be helpful including some insurance knowledge, business modeling, development and implementation of innovative solutions using both COTS and internally developed software.

Responsibilities:
Work with Actuarial, Finance and IT resources to understand and document business processes, data and system flows end-to-end.
Proactively identify opportunities for improvement, including automation, increased efficiency, better capacity planning, governance or controls - may include new ways to leverage existing tools or introduction of new tools.
Scope and plan solution – from conception to implementation, identifying scope of work, skill sets required, impact to current process.
Responsible for the development and implementation of prioritized improvements – may include working as an individual contributor or as part of a team, depending on scope of work and skill sets required.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (i.e. Computer Science, Math or Engineering etc or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated self-starter who can work with little direction in a complex environment.
Demonstrates customer centric behaviors and a willingness to proactively work with the Actuarial, Finance and IT Communities to create solid technical solutions, process improvements and meaningful metrics.
Strong consultative and communication skills required for socializing technical concepts and building acceptance of process enhancements and automation.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technologies and business concepts and to cross technologies, functions or roles as needed to advance business goals.
Must have the ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines and concentrate on detailed information. Basic management of small tactical projects may be required.
Working knowledge of Windows and UNIX operating systems, statistical or modeling software.

Preferred Qualifications:
Former Actuarial student or working knowledge of the Actuarial processes of pricing, valuation, projections, and experience studies.
Insurance industry experience, especially in the Life, Long Term Care and Annuity business lines.
Experience in data modeling of any type.
Experience working on projects where a tool or process was being reverse-engineered.
Working knowledge of a variety of reporting and analytics tools.
Working knowledge of processing in a distributed and/or cloud environment.
Previous experience as a technical developer.
