Business Analyst - Financial Accounting
12+ months contract
The primary place of performance is onsite at Crownsville, MD. Work will be in-person, telework and hybrid and decided by the Customer.
Pay rate: Market/Flexible
Responsibilities:
- Review existing process documentation for departmental structure, and relevant accounting principles.
- Identify and Interview various subject matter experts to understand and document for each key accounting process, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, budget general ledger, year-end process and the business requirements which drive them.
- Document existing processes and procedures and prepare meaningful and easily understood process diagrams using standard diagramming software or flowcharts for clarity and consistency.
- Identify gaps in business operations.
- Analyze processes and recommend improvements for architecting new processes which address any identified gaps and increase process efficiency and effectiveness.
- Present findings, recommendations, and work products to various stakeholders and groups within the Customer's organization utilizing strong verbal and written communication skills in a well-organized fashion.
- Assist in research efforts supporting related business analysis as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned including documentation as directed by the Department.
- Participate, where requested, in project development of new systems and processes.
- Participation can include but is not limited to the following:
- Assist identified stakeholders with requirement identification and scope definition.
- Comprehend basic to complex business issues translating business needs into understandable requirements.
- Facilitate requirements elicitation session(s) with stakeholders.
- Review and document existing (as-is) business processes.
- Develop and document future (to-be) business processes.
- Develop and maintain or assist in the development and maintenance of project documentation.
- Conduct a quality review walkthrough of business requirements documentation, including roles, responsibilities.
- Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) for processes and procedures within the fiscal, budget and contract administrational operational areas.
- Accounting Manual Development:
- Draft the Accounting manual incorporating:
- Process maps for each key accounting process.
- Create step by step process.
- Conduct internal reviews
Education Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Accounting.
Experience:
- At least five (5) years' experience as a Business Analyst related to Financial Accounting.
- At least three (3) years of experience eliciting and documenting business processes
- Ability to work within a team as well as working independently or under general direction.
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office suite and process mapping tools.
- Experience with accounting principles.
- Prior experience preparing business cases or other writing project deliverables such as a functional requirements document or a requirements traceability matrix.
- Demonstrated knowledge of business process / workflow automation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of performing gap analyses.
- Prior senior level experience preparing and delivering informative, well-organized presentations.
- Breadth of knowledge in the Business Analyst Body of Knowledge (BABOK).
- Experience in working with Google Workspace (formerly G-Suite) collaborative productivity tools preferred along with Microsoft Visio.
