JOB DESCRIPTION

Federate Systems is looking for a Solutions Architect who is well rounded with the big picture of Information Technology, Data Centers, and Engineering that meet Business and Operational needs. The selected candidate must be able to effectively analyze, research, design and communicate issues or new solutions of technical nature with key stakeholders. The ability to set and meet targets and/or deadlines is also very important as most projects have a limited time frame. We are looking for a local candidate tin the Washington DC Metropolitan area.

The Solutions Architect candidate, in Information Technology, will be a practitioner of IT solutions architecture. process. The solutions architect translates Request for Information Technology Services (RITS) into IT solutions through architecture and design artifacts to meet the requirements through a business solution. The candidate will work closely with the Federal lead that is on the receiving end of the various technology assigned RITS. The rest of the stakeholders and development, engineering and/or operations teams then uses those artifacts to implement the solution. The Solution Architect’s process typically involves thorough research and bakeoffs to select the most appropriate technology for a problem, expansion or new solution. The solution may require to design three options in the delivery to the customer for consideration and keeping budget in mind, we refer to them as Optimal, Sub-Optimal and meets the requirement to position the customer or stakeholder to make the decision.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following is a job description example for the role of a solution architect. It consists of the common duties, tasks, and responsibilities for the position:

Liaise with clients and business representatives to understand the needs of business
Liaise with other professionals to design solution architecture for businesses and clients
Ensure compliance to solution architectural design in the implementation of projects
Provide architectural guidance to the project team
Build pro-active monitoring methodologies in order to preempt new and long term failures
Provide systems trending and forecasting of technology areas to focus on
Render consulting and technical support services on project implementation to the project team
Explain technical issues and IT solution strategies to stakeholders and other IT professionals
Keep accurate record of materials used, expected deliverables, and milestones achieved
Ensure that solution milestones are accomplished at the right time
Tier 4 escalation point for multiple teams
Guide the activities of the solution architecture and engineering units to ensure timely completion of projects
Ensure that solution architecture (software, hardware) designed are in sync with business needs and requirements
Review the proposal of vendors and suppliers to ensure that quality inputs are delivered at the least possible cost
Identify and mitigate existing business risk or risks associated with solution architecture.
Works well with the customer and other supporting teams and contracts.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

An IT or related degree at a BS level (minimum requirement) from an accredited college or university is desired. Years of experience may be considered a substitute for a degree.
15+ years of Information Technology experience in an Architect, Engineering, Data Centers, O&M role or combined roles working with the various technologies but not limited to: Cisco, NetApp, HP, Applications, Software and business solutions.
Candidate must have demonstrated experience in a Solutions Architect and Engineering hands on experience.
Must have the ability to thoroughly understand the client primary Data Center and Disaster Recovery components.
Possess the knowledge to recommend/design proactive monitoring and alerting hierarchy
In depth knowledge of virtualization, active directory and cloud technologies
Excellent written and communication skills. Able to communicate the business solutions without in-depth technical terms that allows stakeholders to understand with the capability to communicate the in-depth technical details with the Engineering and/or Operations team members or Federal Leadership.
Fluent coding knowledge in PowerShell, Batch/WMI and VB Scripting
Thorough knowledge of networking OSI model
Familiar with Routing, NAT and basic firewall principals
Understanding of NetApp storage architecture with functional understanding of Data ONTAP cDOT and operations of Virtual Storage Servers (Vservers)
