Our client, with missions in University teaching, research and public service and half-million annual enrollments, seeks an accomplished Business Intelligence Functional Analyst.

Description:
This will be key business interfacing position responsible for working with business units to elicit and document requirements to be translated into technical requirements. Will be the subject matter expert in all functional areas.
Perform highly complex analysis of business user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation into proper system and process requirement specifications. May perform analysis for a wide range of requests using data in different formats and from various sources.
Responsible for understanding the requirements of the business community, and what metrics and measures are derived from this activity to ensure the information being provided is usable and accurate. Provides input to business requirements for the design of solutions.
Research business problems and works with the solution architect to create models that help analyze these business problems and to determine if the information required exists, or if modification to start capturing additional information may be necessary to achieve the desired results.
Ability to unify business and functional requirements by building consensus amongst different stakeholders across different geographic locations.
Work closely with the systems analyst to document business requirements that can be used by the solution architect, ETL lead developer, and lead report developer in writing technical requirements.
Participate in work stream planning process including inception, technical design, development, testing and delivery of BI solutions. Participate in project management estimation process, and maintain the project plan.
Initiate, design or modify highly complex processes and procedures where standardized policies or procedures may not exist.
Understand and apply industry practices, community standards and department/unit policies and procedures in depth. Lead or provide direction for the planning, designing, and execution of user testing efforts.
Oversee the implementation (i.e., testing, issues resolution) of new enhancements or modifications. Provide support to test teams. Analyze testing results to ensure the solution meets the needs of the business.
Responsible for the delivery of the content to the user community. Ensure that the content is easy to use and understand and meets the functional requirements.
Develop training materials for the user community to understand the information and business processes that support the Team, and help to ensure user adoption of the BI platform.
Understand and apply industry practices, community standards and department/unit policies and procedures in depth.

Requirements:
Broad knowledge of the IT environment. Minimum seven years of experience in data related work with at least four years as a functional lead for a large, complex Business Intelligence system.
Experience with multi-dimensional star schema data warehouse and relational database management system (DB2) is required.
Strong understanding of BI reporting and ETL tools (Cognos and DataStage Strong knowledge of data design, data mapping and data conversion.
Ability to come up to speed quickly to learn new functional areas. Extensive experience in identifying and documenting business requirements in a data warehouse environment.
Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
Ability to write a user acceptance test plan. Ability to write user training documentation in a clear and concise manner.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms and complex business concepts in technical terms.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work on cross-functional teams and communicate effectively across the organization at multiple levels both verbally and written.
Experience with full software development lifecycle. Experience with project management tools such as MS Project.
Self-motivated and independent, able to work with a minimum of supervision, and able to work well with stakeholders and project staff.
Ability to prioritize and multi-task across numerous work streams.
Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work and deliverables. Able to lead teams to consensus decisions on complex business and technical data challenges.
Deep knowledge of best practices through relevant experience across data-related disciplines and technologies particularly for enterprise wide data architectures and data warehousing/BI.
Experience with enterprise risk management data is preferred: Safety management, Insurance Claims lifecycle, General risk management practices, Worker’s compensation.
