Network Architect (Network Engineer, Sr. ,Chelsea , MA

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for taking a deep dive into DOR's current network/infrastructure and documenting the existing state to allow for a broader understanding.
  • Act as a key player in a team to transitions DOR's Network to the Commonwealth's enterprise network (OneNetwork).
  • Bring transparency and recommendations on the divide of responsibilities as it relates to DOR's network and VPN between A&F IT and EOTSS.
  • Responsible for assessing the current practices for internal VPN/Network Monitoring tools, performing a gap analysis and developing a migration strategy to leverage the Commonwealth Enterprise Monitoring Solution.
  • Responsible for performing a current IP address inventory and usage assessment. Working in conjunction with EOTSS OneNetwork Team, develop a high-level strategy for migration to non-overlapping RFC1918 address space to further facilitate migration to OneNetwork.
  • Responsible for creating a dashboard or bringing visibility to existing dashboards that indicate when there are problems.
  • Create documented procedures to handle issues that occur within the DOR VPN/Network.
  • Review and edit existing communication alerts for userbase and lead charge in those communications.
  • Researches and keeps abreast of the latest network equipment, including VOIP switches, routers, wireless network components and videoconferencing systems, then recommends the best practices, processes, and solutions available to support end users.
  • Manages the upgrade of hardware and software when necessary, to ensure that all services are provided in a secure and timely fashion.
  • Clearly communicates to the Change Management group any IT operations issues or disruptions (planned or unplanned) to minimize user impact.
  • Works collaboratively with internal and external groups in a team environment to improve overall customer service and support.
  • Manages site-specific projects as related to network infrastructure, Wi-Fi, videoconferencing & server support.
  • Facilitates the documentation of video conferencing systems, servers, infrastructure, and practices by providing written and/or verbal communications to effectively maintain a resource of standard practices.
  • Reviews customers requested new capabilities, assesses available options, and writes summary statements for management recommending technology solutions.
  • Provides training on policies and procedures to other members of the group.
  • Configure and install software, hardware, routers, firewalls, and other network devices
  • Monitor the Network and implement measures to proactively identify risks / issues and implement solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve Network and VPN related issues.
  • Provide recommendations and implement improvements to network capacity, performance, and scalability.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Strong working experience of Cisco and Juniper based networks and VOIP infrastructure, including Cisco switches, Cisco routers, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with Call Centers and CTI.
  • Proven experience in creating and configuring Local and Wide Area Networks (physical and VLANs).
  • Proven experience with design and implementation of enterprise networking solutions including wireless, videoconferencing and VPN.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Microsoft networking technologies such as Active Directory, Azure AD, SCCM, etc.
  • Proven experience in creating and configuring Local and Wide Area Networks (physical and VLANs).
  • Ability to write and implement scripts appropriate for network management.
  • Knowledge and experience with current IT and security standards and measures/requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies, LAN and WAN management and analysis tools.
  • Experience managing Networking hardware including switches, routers and firewalls.
  • Strong experience with a variety of routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, IGRP, EIGRP, and RIP.
  • Working knowledge and experience with the following:
    • Microsoft desktop and server operating systems (2003 through current versions)
    • Active Directory
    • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Visio; working knowledge of Microsoft Access and Microsoft Project a plus.
  • Ability to create detailed network diagrams using Microsoft Visio in support of network hardware deployments.
  • Ability to follow standard change management processes, document and evaluate impact of required changes to the various networked systems, plan, schedule and communicate changes to be implemented.
  • Knowledge and experience with Variable Length Subnet Masking (VLSM) and static routing.

 
Education and Certifications:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Cisco Certifications: CNNA, CCNP or Cisco CCIE
  • Juniper Network Certifications: JNCIA or JNCIE
