Role: Senior GIS Developer
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Senior GIS Developer to join their team in Washington, DC.
The Senior GIS Developer leads the design, development and maintenance of GIS databases and technology platforms. Writes complex SQL scripts to extract data from various databases and systems to make data available for enterprise-wide usage for web maps, analytics and reporting. Maintains GIS applications, databases, and environments. Creates and enhances GIS web applications, spatial data and layers using multiple developing and scripting languages. The results provide ongoing support to decision-makers, the FCC, Congress, and other interested parties.
Essential Duties:
Serve as the technical lead in the development of GIS applications, maintaining environments, usability improvement, and integrations
Development, ongoing maintenance, as well as the design, of enterprise geocoding data repository and geocoding API services. Apply geodatabase principles to ensure that GIS databases are optimized for maximum performance and is designed according to best GIS industry standards.
Develops complex ETL (extract, transform and load) SQL scripts from various databases and systems to make data available for web maps, analytics and reporting.
Analyses requests for new applications, programs, and modifications to existing GIS applications; documents and evaluates processes and functionality requirements; identifies gaps and recommends improvements to system functionality and/or procedures.
Develops and enhances custom GIS web applications, scripts, spatial data and layers using multiple developing languages and scripting languages.
Monitors utilization of GIS applications to plan for current and future needs. Identify areas for improvement related to GIS architecture, design, performance optimization, development process, workflows, governance, and tools/technologies.
Troubleshoot reported problems pertaining to database and applications environments, working closely with other IT members, especially DBAs, Systems Analysts and Systems Engineers, identifying the cause and designing or developing an approach for resolution.
Train end users on GIS technologies related to geocoding and web map application use.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of Relational Databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle) 7 years Knowledge of Columnar Databases or columnar storage (such as Vertica) 5 years SQL Queries 7 years Pentaho PDI ETL 7 years PostGIS, Python, Shell scripting 5 years Geocoding, geo processing, creation of shape files 7 years CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Leaflet, Carto 5 years GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS 5 years
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Experience in Agile development is a plus Ability to use Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Visio Ability to produce artifacts Data flow and prototyping experience Developing and/or creating methods, procedures, training, etc.
