Network Cloud Architect

A Network Architect is responsible for leading and designing The Company’s cloud, DC and hybrid network services and is passionate about building highly resilient, scalable, and secure architectures. You will be working within a collaborative cross-functional team, designing, architecting, building, maintaining, and supporting environments running in a hybrid cloud model, connecting AWS, Google, and Azure clouds to SVB’s on-prem datacenters, campus/branch locations, SVB customers and partners. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in an early adoption into the cloud. You will be focused on defining best practices, developing new processes, building automation, and self-service enabling other teams.

 

The scope of the role requires broad and in-depth knowledge of multiple networks and compute technologies including VCP’s, transit gateways, networking, SDW5AN, VPN, containers, load balancing, security, and automation. This is one of the key roles for the successful delivery of the enterprise cloud as a service and designing secure connections to SVB’s business partners. Members of this team will share on-call rotation duties to cover escalations and emergency fixes.

 

Responsibilities:

·       Provides hands-on technical architecture, design, and implementation to build and automate network solutions between public cloud providers and on-prem data centers to support business partners, application hosting, builds, and deployment solutions.

·       Architect, design, engineer, define and build patterns and catalog of enterprise and cloud network services.

·       Collaborate with the DevOps teams and Cybersecurity teams to define the requirements for catalog automation for network infrastructure as code to automate the full lifecycle of the design patterns.

·       Ensures all cloud network infrastructure engineering patterns are designed with an appropriate level of proactive monitoring, resilience, and dynamic failover to meet internal and client SLA requirements.

·       Ensures new engineered network capabilities to meet all cost, reliability, and scale requirements, as well as any physical hosting restrictions.

·       Owns the detailed design patterns for tools and automation of the network supporting IaaS and PaaS offerings.

·       Stakeholder engagement, public cloud automation, and roadmap adoption.

·       Help build self-service platform and network as code packages.

·       Automate, optimize, and drive efficiency of this effort, code, and process.

·       Design & implement networking and security, DevOps Best practices, establish standards and policies for managing the network as code source code.

·       Create, maintain, and share technical documentation used by engineers and other team members.

·       Ensures compliance and security are integrated into all cloud architecture solutions.

·       Collaborate with development teams to help architect, configure, monitor, and support their network services.

 

Qualifications:

·       External Technical Skills:

·       Experience in design and build of cloud-related network solutions, i.e., private, and public cloud network services incorporating security and compliance

·       Enterprise experience in design and delivery of network services as Infrastructure as a code

·       Experience building, maintaining, and supporting environments in AWS/GCP/AZURE Cloud platforms

·       Knowledge of cloud technologies and cloud infrastructure, including networking, VPCs, VGWs, DNS, Load Balancing, Certs, etc.

·       Experience with network designs to support containerization (Docker, etc.) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, etc.) in deployment and operations Splunk

·       Hands-on experience using industry-standard DevOps tools (CI/CD, Git, scripting, Chef, Puppet, Docker, etc.)

·       Familiar with designing networks to support Micro-service architectures.

·       Detail-oriented, with excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.

·       Strong Experience with scripting, with a preference for Terraform, Python, Perl, Bash, PHP, etc.?

·       Familiarity with general monitoring principles, as well as tools like CloudWatch, Zabbix. New Relic, AppDynamics, Splunk, etc.

·       Experience writing technical documentation for a technical audience.

·       Strong commitment to customer service and service enablement.

·       Ability to communicate effectively with DevOps teams, quality assurance, and site reliability engineers.

·       IP Routing in Public Cloud and On-Prem Datacenters (SD-WAN, HA, BGP, IPAM, DNS, Subnetting, Firewalls, and Load Balancers)

·       AWS Networking (VPN's, VPC's, transit gateways, direct connect) AWS Services (Terraform, Terraform Enterprise, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config, S3, EC2, VPC, IAM, and KMS)

·       Participate in a project team of highly skilled engineers involved with vManage and SD-WAN connecting to the cloud.

 

Qualifications/Experience:

·       Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or MS with 3+ years of relevant experience.

·       8+ years of demonstrated experience in designing and developing complex distributed IT solutions (e.g. cloud, distributed systems, or high-performance IaaS or SaaS network hosting)?

·       5+ years’ experience in operations management tools. Alerting & Monitoring, Provisioning & Deployment, Configuration Management, and Source Control, etc.

·       Experience with Dockers, Kubernetes, and Containerization in any public cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

·       Demonstrated passion for infrastructure as code, continuous improvement, and a "can-do" attitude.

·       Excellent verbal & written communication skills.

·       AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional + Networking Specialty is a plus.
